American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, February 25.

Player of the Week

Dazia Lawrence, R-Jr., G, Charlotte

Lawrence led the 49ers to a pair of wins at North Texas and at home against Wichita State.  She averaged 24 points, 4.5 assists and five rebounds.  Lawrence had a weekend-high 26 points in the road win over the Mean Green before adding 22 points and eight assists in the home win over the Shockers.

Freshman of the Week

Vittoria Blasigh, Fr., G, South Florida

Blasigh averaged 13 points, three assists and five rebounds for the Bulls. In the win over East Carolina, Blasigh scored 20 points and dished out five assists.

Weekly Honor Roll

Danae McNeal, Gr., G, East Carolina

McNeal averaged 23.5 points in two games for the Pirates, including 22 points in the win over SMU.

DesiRay Kernal, Gr., F, North Texas

Kernal had a pair of double-doubles, averaging 19 points and 12 rebounds in games against Charlotte and UAB.

Romi Levy, R-Jr., F, South Florida

Levy scored 22 points and added six assists in the road win over East Carolina. She averaged 19.5 points in the week.

Tiarra East, Jr., G, Temple

East led Temple to three wins, averaging 14 points and nine rebounds to put the Owls in first place in The American.

Temira Poindexter, Jr., F, Tulsa

Poindexter averaged 25.5 points in wins over UAB and South Florida. She scored 30 points and came down with five rebounds against the Blazers.
