American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, February 11.

Player of the Week

Jazzy Owens-Barnett, So., G, Rice

Owens-Barnett led Rice to a pair of important wins, defeating South Florida and Tulsa to stay just one-game back of first place in The American. Owens-Barnett scored 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting at South Florida and added another 17 points in the win over Tulsa.

Freshman of the Week

Aysia Proctor, Fr., G, UTSA

Proctor scored 14 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting from the field to guide UTSA to a win over then-first place UAB.  She added seven rebounds and two assists in the win.

Weekly Honor Roll

Danae McNeal, Gr., G, East Carolina

McNeal stuffed the stat sheet with 20 points, eight rebounds, six assists, five blocks and three steals in a win over Charlotte.

Madison Griggs, 5th, G, Memphis

Griggs scored 20 points and had three steals in the 80-79 win over Tulane.

Dyani Robinson, Gr., G, North Texas

Robinson scored 22 points and dished out six assists in the Mean Green’s win over SMU.

Temira Poindexter, Jr., F, Tulsa

Poindexter finished with a double-double against Rice, scoring 33 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

Daniela Abies, So., F, Wichita State

Abies had a double-double in the win over Florida Atlantic, finishing with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while dishing out four assists.
