American Athletic Conference Announces Women’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly women’s basketball awards for the week ending Sunday, January 21.

Player of the Week

Temira Poindexter, Jr., F, Tulsa

Poindexter led the Golden Hurricane to a win over Wichita State on Saturday, scoring 31 points and grabbing eight rebounds. She shot 6-for-12 from behind the arc and 11-for-18 from the field in the win.

Freshman of the Week

Aysia Proctor, Fr, G, UTSA

Proctor averaged 14 points and eight rebounds in two games for the Roadrunners. In the win over South Florida, she finished with 19 points on 6-of-15 shooting and eight rebounds.

Weekly Honor Roll

Denim DeShields, So., G, UAB

DeShields scored 10 of the final 11 points to help the Blazers overcome a 15-point deficit and defeat UTSA.

Danae McNeal, Gr., G, East Carolina

McNeal scored a career-high 35 points and set the East Carolina record for made free throws without a miss (15-for-15) in the win over SMU.

DesiRay Kernal, Gr., F, North Texas

Kernal averaged 17.5 points and eight rebounds as she helped lead the Mean Green to a pair of road wins over SMU and South Florida.

Dominique Ennis, So., G, Rice

Ennis helped guide the Owls to a pair of wins over East Carolina and Tulane, averaging 17.5 points and four rebounds.

Daniela Abies, So., F, Wichita State

Abies averaged a double-double in two games for the Shockers, scoring 17.5 points and grabbing 13 rebounds in games against Memphis and Tulsa.
