American Athletic Conference Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, October 29.

Offensive Player of the Week

Kayley Cassaday, Gr., OH, Tulsa

Cassaday continued her impressive season, helping the Golden Hurricane pick up a pair of wins over South Florida and East Carolina.  The outside hitter averaged 5.62 points per set and 5.38 kills per set, while hitting .272 on the week. She finished with a weekend-high 29 kills and added 11 digs in the 3-2 win over the Pirates.

Defensive Player of the Week

Miranda Putnicki, Fr., MB, UTSA

Putnicki was a force at the net for the Roadrunners, helping UTSA earn wins over Memphis and Florida Atlantic.  The freshman middle blocker averaged 2.29 blocks per set, including a rally-scoring era program record 12 blocks in a four-set win over Memphis.

Weekly Honor Roll

Aleeyah Galdeira, Sr., L, North Texas

Galdeira averaged 4.63 digs per set for the Mean Green, guiding North Texas to a 2-0 week against Temple and Charlotte.

Nia McCardell, Sr., L, Rice

McCardell anchored the Rice defense with 5.63 digs per set in wins over East Carolina and Temple.

Emma Clothier, Gr., MB, SMU

Clothier helped the Mustangs to a pair of sweeps over UAB and South Florida, finishing with 1.33 blocks per set for the week.

Mekaila Aupiu, Jr., S, UTSA

Auipiu paced the Roadrunners to wins over Memphis and Florida Atlantic, averaging 11 assists per set. She added 1.57 blocks per set on the defensive side.

Sabrina Skyers, So., MB, Tulane

Skyers helped guide the Green Wave to wins over Charlotte and UAB, finishing the week with 1.43 blocks per set in the wins.
