American Athletic Conference Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, October 20.

Offensive Player of the Week

Kaila Ru, Sr., MB, Florida Atlantic

Ru helped guide the Owls to a pair of wins over South Florida and Rice, averaging 3.57 points per set while holding a .486 hitting percentage.  She also added 1.29 blocks per set on the defensive side.

Defensive Player of the Week

Madison Dyer, Jr., MB/RS,, Florida Atlantic

Dyer powered the Owls to a pair of wins, finishing the weekend with 1.57 blocks per set, including seven blocks in the win over South Florida.

Setter of the Week

Victoria Hensley, Jr., S, Florida Atlantic

Hensley paced the Owls with 11.14 assists per set, finishing with 78 total assists in wins over Rice and South Florida.

Freshman of the Week

Taryn Gilreath, Fr., S, East Carolina

Operating out of a 6-2 rotation, Gilreath finished with 6.00 assists per set and a .387 set percentage to help guide the Pirates to wins over Temple and Wichita State.

Honorable Mention

Jorda Crook, So., OPP, UAB

Crook helped guide the Blazers to a win over Tulane, finishing with 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .235.

Fran McBride, Gr., RS, East Carolina

McBride finished with 1.25 blocks per set and added 2.50 kills per set to help the Pirates win a pair of matches.

Ryann Vik, Fr., MB, North Texas

The Mean Green freshman finished with 1.71 blocks per set, including 10 blocks in the 3-1 win over Tulsa.

Maria Clara Andrade, Jr., OH, South Florida

Andrade finished with 6.07 points per set and a hitting percentage of .295. She had a weekend high 21 kills in the win over Rice.

Taylor Davenport, Gr., OH, Temple

Davenport averaged 5.00 points per set and a hitting percentage of .203. She finished with 16 kills in the win over Charlotte.
