American Athletic Conference Announces Volleyball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, September 8.

Offensive Player of the Week

Ally Cavanaugh, R-Fr., RS, South Florida

Cavanaugh was instrumental in helping the Bulls to a 3-0 week that included wins over No. 10 Florida and Ohio State in Gainesville. The right side averaged 3.73 kills per set, while hitting .281. In the win over the Gators, she finished with 19.5 points.

Defensive Player of the Week

Marta Pecalli, Sr., L, Tulsa

Pecalli led the Golden Hurricane to a 4-0 week, dropping just two sets along the way. The senior libero averaged 5.79 digs per set while being named to the All-Tournament Team at the ORU Volleyball Classic. She added 11 aces on the week.

Setter of the Week

Caroline Dykes, Sr., S, South Florida

Dykes paced the historic weekend for the Bulls, averaging 10.23 assists per set.  Against No. 10 Florida, she finished with 49 digs, while also adding five block assists from the defensive side.

Freshman of the Week

Martina Franco, Fr., OH, UTSA

Franco helped guide the Roadrunners to wins over Holy Cross and Abilene Christian while averaging 3.93 kills per set and 2.40 digs per set. She finished with a pair of double doubles on the weekend.


Honorable Mention

Carlia Northcross, Jr., M, East Carolina

Northcross averaged 3.39 points per set, while hitting .636. She added 1.00 blocks per set as the Pirates went 3-0 on the weekend.

Lara Uyar, Sr., L, East Carolina

Uyar paced the Pirates to an undefeated weekend, averaging 5.56 digs per set.

Victoria Hensley, Jr., S, Florida Atlantic

Hensley paced the Owls to three wins, averaging 10.88 assists per set, which included a career-best 59 assist performance against Northern Arizona.

Cindy Tchouangwa, So., OH, Rice

Tchouangwa averaged 5.50 points per set, leading the Owls to wins over South Alabama and UNLV.

Mia Soerensen, Jr., OPP, UTSA

Soerensen averaged 4.70 points per set and 0.93 blocks per set to be named to the UTSA Invitational All-Tournament Team.
