IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly volleyball awards for the week ending Sunday, September 1.
Offensive Player of the Week
Jorda Crook, So., OPP, UAB
Crook led The American with 5.86 points per set, while hitting .491 from her opposite position. The sophomore had a career-high 24 kills against Mississippi State and hit .571 against the Bulldogs.
Defensive Player of the Week
Nia McCardell, 5th, L/DS, Rice
McCardell led Rice two a 2-0 weekend, including a 3-0 win over (RV) Texas State. The 5th year libero led The American with 5.75 digs per set.
Setter of the Week
Lexi Yoza, So., S, Temple
Yoza paced the Owls to a 3-1 weekend, finishing with 6.1 assists per set while operating in a 6-2 system. She opened the weekend with three straight 20-assist performances in a trio of wins.
Freshman of the Week
Savannah Skopal, Fr., S, Rice
Skopal began her career with a league-leading 11.88 assists per set in a pair of wins for the Owls. She added 2.75 digs per set from her setter position.
Honorable Mention
Fran McBride, Gr., RS, East Carolina
McBride led the Pirates to a 3-0 weekend, averaging 3.27 points per set and 0.82 blocks per set.
Valeria Rosado, Sr., OH/RS, Florida Atlantic
Rosado finished with a pair of double-double performances, finishing the weekend with 4.18 points per set and 2.64 digs per set.
Lademi Ogunlana, Jr., MB, Rice
Ogunlana averaged 4.19 points per set, while hitting .525. She added 1.25 blocks per set from her middle blocker position.
Taylor Davenport, Gr., OH, Temple
Davenport led the Owls to three wins, averaging 4.77 points per set, while hitting .262 on the weekend.
Tytiana Johnson, Sr., MB, Tulsa
Johnson averaged 1.56 blocks per set, helping guide the Golden Hurricane to two wins over opening weekend.
