IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, March 2.
Player of the Week
Jenna Lord, R-Sr., INF, Charlotte
Lord had a career-week for the 49ers, slashing .500/1.625/.529 while hitting six home runs in five games. She finished the week 13 RBI, including six in the win against USC Upstate. She recorded a hit in every game and had a home run in four of the five games, including two multi-home run games.
Pitcher of the Week
Belle Sardja, Sr., South Florida
Sardja led the Bulls in the circle, recording two wins against New Mexico State and Alabama A&M, while recording a save against Abilene Christian. Against No. 1 Texas, she tossed 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just three hits. For the week, she held a 0.49 ERA across 14.1 innings with 11 strikeouts.
Honorable Mention
Brooke Bowling, R-Jr., P, Charlotte
Bowling held a 0.60 ERA across 11.2 innings, striking out 13 batters. She picked up two wins in the circle.
Anna Sawyer, Jr., OF, East Carolina
Sawyer slashed .667/1.000/.778, recording a hit in five of the six games played, including three multi-hit games.
Destiny Johns, Florida Atlantic
Johns knocked in 12 runs off and scored an additional four times. She had three 4 RBI performances on the week.
Riley McNemar, Jr., INF, North Texas
McNemar hit the walk-off grand-slam to lift the Mean Green past No. 13 Texas Tech.
Claira Skaggs, Sr., INF, Tulsa
Skaggs led the Golden Hurricane to four wins, including a walk-off single against Kansas City.
