American Athletic Conference Announces Softball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly softball awards for the week ending Sunday, April 21.

Player of the Week

Cierra Simon, Jr., INF, North Texas

Simon helped lead the Mean Green to five wins on the week, including a series sweep over Memphis. Simon slashed .400/.429/.800 with 11 RBI and five run scored. In the final two games against Memphis she went 4-6 at the plate with five RBI and 3 runs scored.

Pitcher of the Week

Chloe Barber, Fr., Wichita State

Barber had a phenomenal outing against UAB as the freshman pitcher tossed a complete-game shutout.  She allowed just three hits and struck out 15 batters across seven innings.

Weekly Honor Roll

Morgan Johnson, Gr., UTL, East Carolina

Johson slashed .583/.667/1.333 with five RBI and six runs scored on the week to help the Pirates secure a series win against South Florida.

Sam Gress, Jr., P, Charlotte

Gress picked up two wins for the 49ers as the junior pitcher tossed 13 shut-out innings across three games.

Presley Leebrick, Gr., OF, Florida Atlantic

Leebrick reached base in every game of the week, while going 4-for-7 with three RBI in the series sweep over UTSA.

Gabby Sacco, Jr., P, Florida Atlantic

Sacco held a 0.70 ERA across ten innings pitched for the Owls, helping Florida Atlantic pick up two wins in the sweep of UTSA.

McKenzie Wagoner, Sr., P, North Texas

Wagoner earned three wins for the Mean Green, striking out 12 batters across 14 innings in the circle.
