American Athletic Conference Announces Selected Television Designations, Kickoff Times For 2025 Football Schedule

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced a number of kickoff times and television designations for the 2025 football season.

In addition to times and television assignments for the first three weeks of the 2025 season across ESPN platforms and on CBS Sports Network, Thursday’s announcement includes the kickoff times for The American’s Thursday and Friday prime time games on ESPN networks as well as those for Army and Navy home games, primarily on CBS Sports Network.

The Week 1 schedule begins with a previously announced nonconference game as South Florida hosts 2024 College Football Playoff participant Boise State Thursday, Aug. 28, on ESPN, while East Carolina visits NC State later that evening on the ACC Network in a rematch of the Pirates’ Military Bowl win against the Wolfpack last season.

Week 1 continues Friday, Aug. 29, as Charlotte faces Appalachian State in the Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium on ESPNU.

The Saturday ledger from Week 1 has Florida Atlantic at Maryland on Big Ten Network, Tulane’s home game against Northwestern on ESPNU and UTSA’s road trip to Texas A&M on ESPN.

Week 2 is highlighted by the first conference game of 2025 in the American as Navy hosts UAB on CBS Sports Network Sept. 6. Key nonconference games that day include South Florida at Florida on the SEC Network, Army at Kansas State on ESPN, Charlotte’s home game against North Carolina and new head coach Bill Belichick on ESPN+, and the annual Bayou Bucket game between Rice and Houston at Rice Stadium on ESPN+.

Intriguing matchups on Saturday in Week 3 (Sept. 13) include Temple’s home game against Oklahoma on ESPN2, North Texas’ home date against Washington State on ESPNU, Tulane’s home matchup against Duke on ESPN2 and South Florida’s road trip to Miami (Fla.) on The CW.

Sixteen intraconference games from The American have already been designated for national television, beginning with the Week 2 UAB-Navy matchup. The Thursday-night slate of conference games on ESPN begins with Rice at Charlotte (Sept. 18), Army at East Carolina (Sept. 25), East Carolina at Tulane (Oct. 9), Tulsa at East Carolina (Oct. 16), Tulane at UTSA (Oct. 30), UTSA at South Florida (Nov. 6) and a Thanksgiving showdown as Navy visits Memphis (Nov. 27).

The American’s Friday-night lineup of conference games begins with Charlotte at South Florida from Raymond James Stadium (Oct. 3), South Florida at North Texas (Oct. 10), North Texas at Charlotte (Oct. 24), Memphis at Rice (Oct. 31), and Tulane at Memphis (Nov. 7).

Navy’s Nov. 15 home game against South Florida will be at noon ET on an ESPN network to be determined.

The final week of the 2025 regular season will feature a Black Friday game on ESPN. One of two games currently slotted for Saturday, Nov. 29 – Army at UTSA or Temple at North Texas, will move to that Black Friday window. The selection will be made by Oct. 13.

All three games of the annual Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy series will once again air on CBS this season. Navy hosts Air Force Oct. 4, while Army visits the Falcons for a Nov. 1 matchup. The annual Army-Navy game, the second in which both teams will be American Athletic Conference members, is scheduled for Dec. 13 in Baltimore.

The American Athletic Conference Football Championship Game will air on ABC on Friday, Dec. 5 at 8 p.m. ET. It will be the 11th consecutive season that The American Championship will be televised on ABC.

Most of the remaining start times and television designations for the 2025 season will be made on a weekly basis through the season as part of the conference’s 12-day selection process. The most up-to-date schedule, with television designations, is available at TheAmerican.org.

The American Athletic Conference enjoyed a successful 2024 season in its first year of its current 14-team configuration. The American sent eight teams to Bowl Season and captured the Bowl Challenge Cup by virtue of a 6-2 postseason record. Teams from The American scored bowl wins against opponents from the SEC, Big 12, ACC, Mountain West, Sun Belt and Conference USA. The American was one of only five leagues (joining the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12 and SEC) to have three teams finish with 10 wins last season.
