IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, March 30.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Hugo Menin, Gr., UTSA
Menin took the top time in The American in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 51.07 seconds. He has the 12th best time in the nation this season. He also helped guide UTSA to a 4×400 meter time of 3:07.25 – the 11th best time in the nation.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Sascha Schmidt, Jr., Memphis
Schmidt won the shot put at the Don McGarey Invitational with a mark of 18.67 meters. The mark is the 13th best in the nation and the top in The American.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Janae Dean, Gr., Tulane
Dean completed the 800-meter run with a top five time in the country, completing the race at 2:04.30. She is the current leader in The American.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Mckyla Van der Westhuizen, Jr., Rice
Van der Westhuizen set a conference record in javelin with a mark of 60.29 meters. The mark is also the third best in the country this season.
Destiny Masters, Sr., Wichita State
Masters vaulted to the top of the leaderboard in the heptathlon at the ESU Relays. Her 5,604 points are leading the NCAA this season. Her 1.76-meter clearance on high jump during the event is ranked 19th in the nation.
