American Athletic Conference Announces Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, March 23.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Markel Jones, So., South Florida

Jones set a new school record in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing the race with a time of 13.66 seconds.  He is the current leader in The American and is ranked third in the nation.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Gabriel Koletsi, Jr., Memphis

Koletsi won the javelin throw at the Bulldog Alumni Relays with a personal-best of 70.74 meters.  It is the top mark in The American and is 5th in the NCAA.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Joyasia Smith, Jr., Charlotte

Smith cruised to a 100-meter dash time of 11.21 seconds.  It is the 3rd ranked time in the nation and the top-ranked non-wind aided time in the nation. It is the 2nd best non-wind aided time in the world this season.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Jazmyn James, Jr., Memphis

James won the shotput at the Bulldog Alumni Relays with a throw of 15.89 meters.  The mark is the best in The American this season and 15th in the NCAA.
