American Athletic Conference Announces Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly outdoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, April 21.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Gus Gannon, So., Rice

Gannon set the top mark in The American in the 3000-meter steeplechase, completing the race with a time of 8:47.12 at the J. Fred Duckett Twilight Meet.  The time ranks 34th in the NCAA this season.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Goodness Iredia, So., South Florida

Iredia had the third best triple jump in South Florida history, jumping a distance of 15.93 meters.  It is the top mark in The American this season and 9th best in the NCAA.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Sydni McMillan, Sr., East Carolina

McMillan broke the East Carolina program record in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 13.16 seconds.  She set the top mark in The American for this season and the 28th best in the NCAA.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Riley Felts, Sr., Charlotte

Having set The American pole vault record during the indoor season, Felts broke the conference record in the outdoor season this past weekend, clearing a height of 4.55 meters at the USC Outdoor Open. It is the top mark in The American and 3rd best in the NCAA.
