American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Soccer Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s soccer awards for the matches of the week ending Sunday, September 10.

Offensive Player of the Week

Jalen Anderson, Gr., ST, South Florida

Anderson helped lift the Bulls to their first win of the season with a thrilling 1-0 win over the 15th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers. Anderson scored the game-winning goal for South Florida in the 19th minute of action.

Defensive Player of the Week

Nicolas Scargle, Jr., CB, South Florida

Scargle led the backline for the Bulls, holding the 15th-ranked and 2022 NCAA Runner-Up Indiana Hoosiers to just four shots on goal while playing the full 90 minutes.

Goalkeeper of the Week

Cole Johnson, Sr., SMU

Johnson finished with a pair of clean sheets for the Mustangs, including a 1-0 win over No. 25 Oral Roberts, finishing with six saves in the victory.

Rookie of the Week

Mikey Morales, Fr., M, Tulsa

Morales played 55 minutes in the Golden Hurricane’s 4-3 win over Drake, scoring a goal and assisting on another.

Weekly Honor Roll

Lineker Rodrigues dos Santos, Jr., F, Memphis

Rodrigues dos Santos scored two game-winning goals for the Tigers in games against Central Arkansas and Belmont.

Cesar Sancho, Gr., D, Memphis

Sancho helped lead the Tigers to a pair of wins as the defender led a backline that allowed just eight shots on goal combined in wins against Central Arkansas and Belmont.

Alan Horrocks, So., GK, South Florida

Horrocks finished with a clean sheet in the 1-0 win over No. 15 Indiana as the sophomore finished with three saves in the victory.

Mads Westergren, Jr., D, SMU

Westergren led the backline to just nine shots on goal in two wins for the Mustangs while also assisting on the game-winning goal against No. 25 Oral Roberts.

Malik Henry-Scott, Sr., F, Tulsa

Henry-Scott scored a brace for the Golden Hurricane in the 4-3 win over Drake, while also having one shot on goal in the draw against No. 13 Missouri State.
