American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the ninth week of the regular season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jason Edwards, So., G, North Texas

Edwards helped lead the Mean Green to a 2-0 start in American Athletic Conference play by averaging 27.0 points in wins over Wichita State and Tulane. The sophomore scored 17 against the Shockers on Thursday before turning around and dropping 37 points, a season-high for The American, against the Green Wave on Sunday.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

PJ Haggerty, G, Tulsa

Haggerty averaged 21.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists in games against Memphis and East Carolina. He recorded 27 points, eight rebounds and four assists against the then-No. 15 Tigers and followed that up with 16 points, five rebounds and five assists against the Pirates in Greenville, N.C.

HONOR ROLL

Yaxel Lendeborg, Jr., F, UAB

Lendeborg aided the Blazers to a 2-0 start in conference play by putting in two 23-point, 15-rebound performances against UTSA and South Florida.

Lu’Cye Patterson, R-Jr., G, Charlotte

Patterson averaged 17.5 points in two games and scored the final seven points, including two game-winning free throws, against then-No. 17 Florida Atlantic.

Brandon Johnson, R-Jr., F, East Carolina

Johnson averaged 16.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in a pair of games for the Pirates last week.

Jahvon Quinerly, Sr., G, Memphis

Quinerly scored a pair of game-winning 3-point field goals with less than five seconds remaining last week, first at Tulsa on Thursday and again at home against SMU on Sunday.

Jordan Ivy-Curry, Jr., G, UTSA

Ivy-Curry averaged 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in two games last week for the Roadrunners.
