IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the 10th week of the regular season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Yaxel Lendeborg, Sr., F, UAB
Lendeborg led the Blazers to a pair of wins by averaging 23.5 points, 11.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists. Against Tulane on Tuesday, January 7, the senior scored 25 points while adding 13 rebounds and eight assists, while at Florida Atlantic on Sunday, January 12, Lendeborg added 22 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Ian Smikle, F, Tulsa
Smikle helped lead the Golden Hurricane to wins over UTSA and Charlotte last week, averaging 7.0 points and 10.0 rebounds. He had eight points against the Roadrunners on Tuesday and six points against the 49ers on Sunday, while grabbing 10 rebounds in each contest.
HONORABLE MENTION
RJ Felton, Sr., G, East Carolina
Felton averaged 21.5 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists in two games for the Pirates last week.
PJ Haggerty, R-So., G, Memphis
Haggerty recorded 25 points and four rebounds as the Tigers defeated East Carolina on Saturday, January 11.
Jamal Mashburn Jr, Gr., G, Temple
Mashburn averaged 23.0 points and 4.0 rebounds as the Owls went 1-1 last week.
Primo Spears, Sr., G, UTSA
Spears averaged 24.0 points and 5.5 assists last week, including a conference season-high 40 points against Tulsa on Tuesday.
Dwon Odom, Gr., G, Tulsa
Odom helped lead the Golden Hurricane to two wins by averaging 16.5 points, 7.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds.
