American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the seventh week of the regular season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

PJ Haggerty, R-So., G, Memphis

Haggerty averaged 25.5 points and 4.5 rebounds over two games for the Tigers last week. He recorded 27 points, five rebounds and five assists in Memphis’ road win over Virginia on Wednesday, December 21 before dropping 24 points against Mississippi State on Saturday.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Ian Smikle, F, Tulsa

Smikle recorded nine points and six rebounds in the Golden Hurricane’s win over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday, December 21.

HONORABLE MENTION

Christian Coleman, Sr., F, UAB

Coleman averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in wins over Alabama A&M and Alcorn State.

Jordan Riley, Sr., G, East Carolina

In two games for the Pirates, Riley averaged 17.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 3.0 assists.

Brenen Lorient, Jr., F, North Texas

Lorient averaged 13.3 points and 3.7 rebounds as the Mean Green won three games in five days.

Matthew Reed, So., F, Tulsa

Reed nearly posted a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds in a win over Mississippi Valley State.

Xavier Bell, Sr., G, Wichita State

Bell averaged 22.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in a pair of games for the Shockers last week.
