American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the third week of the regular season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Trae Broadnax, Gr., G, Rice

Broadnax averaged 16.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists as the Owls went on the road and won two games last week. He scored 14 points with nine rebounds and six assists in a 22-point win at Louisiana before recording 19 points, six rebounds and four assists in a victory at Houston Christian.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Matas Vokietaitis, C, Florida Atlantic

Vokietaitis averaged 9.0 points, 7.0 rebounds in three games at the Shiners Children’s Charleston Classic in Charleston, South Carolina. The freshman shot 80 percent from the field (12-of-15). In a win over Oklahoma State, Vokietaitis added three blocks.

HONORABLE MENTION

RJ Felton, Sr., G, East Carolina

Felton averaged 20.7 points, 6.33 rebounds and 2.0 blocks as the Pirates went 2-1 at the Boardwalk Battle in Daytona Beach, Florida. The senior scored 21 points in each win over Stetson and UIC. 

Dain Dainja, R-Sr., F, Memphis

Dainja recorded 18 points, seven rebounds, three blocks, two steals in a come-from-behind win over San Francisco in the Chase Center in San Francisco.

Jamille Reynolds, Sr., F, South Florida

Reynolds averaged 13.3 points and 9.7 rebounds as the Bulls went 2-1 at the Myrtle Beach Invitational in Conway, South Carolina, including a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds in the third-place game victory over Wright State.

Jamal Mashburn Jr, Gr., G, Temple

Mashburn averaged 23.0 points as the Owls split a pair of games at the Hall of Fame Tip-Off in Uncasville, Connecticut, including a 26-point performance in Temple’s win over UMass.

Corey Washington, Jr., F, Wichita State

Washington averaged 16.5 points and 8.0 rebounds as the Shockers defeated Monmouth at home and Saint Louis in the Hall of Fame Classic in Kansas City.
