American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the first week of the regular season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

PJ Haggerty, R-So., G, Memphis

Haggerty averaged 27.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists as the Tigers opened the season 2-0. The redshirt sophomore scored 25 points with six rebounds and five assists in the season opener against Missouri on Monday, November 4, before dropping 29 points in a road victory at UNLV on Saturday, November 9.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

Dillon Battie, F, Temple

Battie averaged 10.0 points and 4.0 rebounds as the Owls picked up wins against Sacred Heart on Monday and against Monmouth in the Jersey Jam on Friday, November 8.

HONOR ROLL

Yaxel Lendeborg, Sr., F, UAB

Lendeborg averaged 21.7 points, 9.33 rebounds and 3.7 assists over the Blazers’ first three games of the season. He scored at least 21 points in all three games.

RJ Felton, Sr., G, East Carolina

Felton averaged 23.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two East Carolina wins, including a 25-point, 11-rebound performance against Coastal Carolina on Saturday.

Jamal Mashburn Jr., Gr., G, Temple

Mashburn averaged 25.5 points and shot 65 percent from the field as the Owls defeated Sacred Heart and Monmouth.

Kaleb Banks, Jr., F, Tulane

Banks posted a pair of double-doubles as Tulane started 2-0, including a 19-point, 12-rebound performance against ULM on Friday.

Justin Hill, Sr., G, Wichita State

Hill averaged 24.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists in two Wichita State wins, including 31 points in the season-opening win at Western Kentucky on Monday.
