American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the final week of the regular season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Eric Gaines, Jr., G, UAB

Gaines averaged 19.5 points, 6.5 assists and 4.0 steals as the Blazers won two games last week. The junior had 22 points and six steals against the Mustangs to help UAB earn a double bye for the 2024 American Men’s Basketball Championship.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

PJ Haggerty, G, Tulsa

Haggerty scored a season-high 32 points and added seven rebounds with five assists as the Golden Hurricane ended South Florida’s nation-leading 15-game win streak on Saturday. Haggerty finishes the season with 14 Freshman of the Week honors, a conference record.

HONOR ROLL

Igor Milicic Jr, Jr., G, Charlotte

Milicic averaged 19.5 points and 7.0 rebounds as the 49ers defeated Rice and East Carolina.

Johnell Davis, Jr., G, Florida Atlantic

Davis averaged 21.5 points, 4.5 assists and 4.0 rebounds as the Owls clinched the No. 2 seed for the American Championship with wins over North Texas and Memphis.

Jason Edwards, So., G, North Texas

Edwards averaged 26.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in two games for the Mean Green, including 32 points against Florida Atlantic on Wednesday.

Kevin Cross, Sr., F, Tulane

Cross recorded 31 points, nine rebounds and six assists as the Green Wave defeated Temple on Saturday and clinched a bye in the American Championship.

Cobe Williams, 5th, G, Tulsa

Williams dropped 23 points with 11 rebounds in the Golden Hurricane’s win over South Florida on Saturday.
