American Athletic Conference Announces Men’s Basketball Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly men’s basketball honors for the 14th week of the regular season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Yaxel Lendeborg, Jr., F, UAB

Lendeborg helped lead the Blazers to a pair of wins by averaging 17.0 points, 16.0 rebeounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals. In UAB’s overtime win over No. 20 Florida Atlantic on Thursday night, the junior scored 17 points and grabbed 21 rebounds, tied for third-most in The American’s history. He flowed that up with 17 points and 11 rebounds at Tulsa on Sunday.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK

PJ Haggerty, G, Tulsa

Haggerty extended his 20-plus point streak to eight games by averaging 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in games against North Texas and UAB. This is the 10th Freshman of the Week honor for Haggerty, breaking the conference’s single-season record, previously held by Taylor Hendricks of UCF in the 2022-23 season.

HONOR ROLL

Dishon Jackson, R-So., C, Charlotte

Jackson averaged 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in games against first-place South Florida and Temple.

Brandon Johnson, R-Jr., F, East Carolina

Johnson recorded 30 points and nine rebounds as the Pirates won on the road at UTSA on Saturday.

David Jones, Sr., G, Memphis

Jones averaged 23.0 points and 10.0 rebounds as the Tigers earned wins at Temple on Thursday and at home against Tulane on Sunday.

Chris Youngblood, Sr., G, South Florida

Youngblood averaged 18.5 points and 4.0 rebounds as the Bulls stayed in first place in The American’s standings with wins over Charlotte and Rice.

Zhuric Phelps, Jr., G, SMU

Phelps helped lead the Mustangs to wins over Rice and North Texas by averaging 13.0 points, 4.5 assists and 4.5 rebounds.
