American Athletic Conference Announces Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, January 19.

Men’s Track Athlete of the Week

Shay McEvoy, R-St., Tulsa

McEvoy set The American record for the indoor one-mile, running a 3:58.48 at the Arkansas Invitational. The time is the 21st best in the nation this season. He also ran the 3rd best 3,000-meter run in The American with a time of 8:13.46.

Men’s Field Athlete of the Week

Kobe Babin, Sr., South Florida

Babin set a South Florida program record in the pole vault, clearing 5.53 meters.  It is currently 6th in the NCAA and the top mark in The American.

Women’s Track Athlete of the Week

Shadae Findley, R-Sr., UTSA

Findley ran a 53.98 400-meter dash at the Lumberjack Team Challenge. It is the top time in The American this season and the 21st fastest in the NCAA.

Women’s Field Athlete of the Week

Ida Breigan, So., UTSA

Breigan took home first place in long jump at the Lumberjack Team Challenge with a distance of 6.50 meters.  The mark is the 5th best in the NCAA and leads The American.
