American Athletic Conference Announces Indoor Track & Field Weekly Awards

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, January 21.

MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Jaleel Montgomery, Jr., Wichita State

Montgomery ran the fastest time in The American this season in the 60-meter hurdles at the 2024 Mark Colligan Memorial, finishing with a time of 7.79 seconds to earn first place in the event. His time is the 27th fastest in the NCAA as of January 23.

MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Brady Palen, Jr., Wichita State

Palen tied the top mark in The American this season in high jump at the 2024 Mark Colligan Memorial, clearing a height of 2.15 meters to earn first place. The clearance is the 25th highest in the NCAA as of January 23.

WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Joyasia Smith, So., Charlotte

Smith claimed the top 200-meter dash time in The American this season by over half a second, running a 23.46 200-meter dash at the Carolina Challenge on January 19. Her time is the 12th fastest in the NCAA as of January 23.

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

KeAyla Dove, Sr., North Texas

Dove broke The American conference record in shot put at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Invitational on January 20. With a throw of 17.83 meters, she claimed first place, The American record, and has the 3rd best throw in the NCAA as of January 23.

Ida Breigan, Fr., UTSA

In her first career competition, Breigan broke The American conference record in long jump with a distance of 6.47 meters. The jump earned her first place at the Lumberjack Team Challenge on January 19th and is the 5th best jump in the NCAA as of January 23.
