IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the league’s weekly indoor track & field awards for the week ending Sunday, January 14.
Men’s Track Athlete of the Week
Jermaine Dyges, Jr., South Florida
Dyges ran a 6.68 60-meter dash at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational in Gainesville, Fla. to take home the gold medal. The time leads The American and is the 26th best time in the NCAA as of January 16.
Men’s Field Athlete of the Week
Cal Abdulky, Jr., Rice
Abdulky threw a person record 20.89 meters in the weight throw at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational in Houston, Texas. It marks the second best throw in Rice history, leads The American by over a meter this season, and is the 17th best throw in the NCAA as of January 16.
Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
Kennedy Gamble, Gr., Rice
Gamble put together two top 50 marks in the NCAA at the Leonard Hilton Memorial Invitational. She broke the Rice program record in the 60-meter dash, running a 7.36, good for 29th in the NCAA. Gamble also ran the 200-meter dash in a time of 24.29, which is the 45th best time in the NAA as of January 16.
Women’s Field Athlete of the Week
Riley Felts, R-Sr., Charlotte
Felts set the Charlotte program record in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.42 meters at the Virginia Tech Invite. With the clearance, she has the top mark in The American and is 2nd in the NCAA as of January 16.
