IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has released its 2023-24 women’s basketball conference schedule.
The women’s league schedule will expand to 18 games from the previous years’ 16 games. Every team in The American will play five of its 13 conference opponents twice and the other eight once – four at home and four on the road.
Starting this season, The American will have 14 teams competing in women’s basketball with the six additions of UAB, Charlotte, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Rice and UTSA joining continuing members, East Carolina, Memphis, South Florida, SMU, Temple, Tulane, Tulsa and Wichita State.
The 2023-24 season marks the fourth year of The American’s media rights extension with ESPN, in which six women’s basketball games annually will appear on ESPN’s linear networks.
The remaining conference-controlled games will be on ESPN+, the industry leading sports streaming service which reaches more than 25 million subscribers and is available at espnplus.com. For more information on ESPN+, visit The American’s Fan Guide to ESPN+.
All games that are televised on an ESPN network will also be available on the ESPN App with TV Everywhere credentials.
Since The American’s inaugural season in 2013-14, the conference has earned 20 bids to the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship and compiled a 46-17 record in the tournament.
Six programs earned postseason bids in 2022-23. East Carolina and South Florida were selected for the NCAA Championship, with the Bulls advancing to the second round. Four squads from The American played in the WNIT, including Memphis, SMU, Tulane and Wichita State.
Conference play begins for The American on Saturday, Dec. 30 with seven games – Tulane at Wichita State, Tulsa at Memphis, UTSA at Temple, SMU at South Florida and North Texas at Charlotte.
The 2024 American Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Championship returns to Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on March 9-13. The tournament games will appear on the linear ESPN Networks and on ESPN+.
The American will preview the 2023-24 season Oct. 9 when the league hosts its Basketball Media Day on ESPN+. Coverage from the Grand Hyatt DFW in Dallas will begin at 9 a.m. Eastern.
