American Announces Outdoor Track & Field Performances of the Year

IRVING, Texas – The American Athletic Conference has announced the winners of the 2024 American Outdoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Performance awards, as student-athletes from Charlotte, Rice and South Florida collected honors following the American Outdoor Track & Field Championships meet.

The awards are presented to student-athletes who recorded the highest-ranking marks on the NCAA performance list during the American Outdoor Track & Field Championships this season. South Florida’s Devontie Archer and Shevioe Reid, Rice’s Ty Hampton and Alice Taylor, and Charlotte’s Joyasia Smith were each recognized for the meet’s top performances.

Men’s Outdoor Track Most Outstanding Performances

Devontie Archer, South Florida – 400-Meter Hurdles

Archer earned gold medals in the 400-meter hurdles and the 4×400 relay at The American Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  His 400 hurdles time of 49.80 seconds moved him into 14th spot on the NCAA performance lists.

Shevioe Reid, South Florida – 200-Meter Dash

Reid held the top 200-meter preliminary time at The American Outdoor Track & Field Championships, finishing with a time of 20.29 seconds. Heading into the NCAA regionals, he has the 14th best time in the nation.

Men’s Outdoor Field Most Outstanding Performance

Ty Hampton, Rice – Javelin

Hampton earned a gold medal in the javelin throw at The American Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a season-best 75.54 meters (247’10”). His mark moved him to No. 10 on the NCAA performance list heading into the NCAA regional meets.

Women’s Outdoor Track Most Outstanding Performance

Joyasia Smith, Charlotte – 200-Meter Dash

Smith earned three first place medals in sprints at The American Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash and 4×100 relay.  Her 200-meter dash time of 22.56 seconds moved her into 10th place heading into the NCAA regional competition.

Women’s Outdoor Field Most Outstanding Performance

Alice Taylor, Rice – High Jump

Taylor had a record-breaking performance at The American Outdoor Track & Field Championships in San Antonio, setting a new conference, meet and stadium record with a clearance of 1.91 meters (6’3.25”).  The performance saw her rise up the NCAA performance lists to No. 4 in the NCAA.
