| 4/2/2026 | Academics BOCA RATON, Fla. – Florida Atlantic Athletics has named its SafeGuard Impact Student-Athletes of the Month for March with football’s Deshaun Batiste and Destiny Johns from the softball team receiving the honors.  The monthly awards are presented to a male and female Florida Atlantic student-athlete to recognize their excellence in the classroom. FAU’s athletic academic staff votes on the award. QUOTABLE Male Deshaun Batiste – Football “Deshaun is a senior football student-athlete who has demonstrated consistent academic growth since arriving at Florida Atlantic. In his first semester as an Owl, he earned a place on the Dean’s List (Fall 2025), setting a strong foundation for continued success. He will be graduating this fall with a bachelor’s degree in professional studies.Beyond the classroom, Deshaun continues to excel both on and off the field. His active engagement in student-athlete development programming has contributed to his personal and professional growth, resulting in a summer internship with the Broward Sheriff’s Office. Deshaun deserves this recognition as student athlete of the month because of his continued hard work and dedication.” – Caitlyn Shumate, Assistant Director of Football Academics. Female Destiny Johns – Softball “Destiny Johns has been the definition of what it means to put the ‘student’ in student-athlete. She has been a mainstay on the President’s and Dean’s list since starting at Florida Atlantic in Fall 2024. She is on pace to finish her bachelor’s in accounting a year early, all while boasting an impressive 3.92 GPA in that span. She is off to another great semester this spring, currently holding all A’s in her classes.
