Congratulations to Oakland Park Fire Rescue Lieutenant Matt Nelligan, who was named Paramedic of the Year during EMS Week activities at Broward Regional Trauma Center.
Lieutenant Nelligan received the award during the annual EMS Awards Breakfast and Trauma Conference, which recognizes outstanding emergency medical professionals for their service, skill, and dedication to patient care. This honor reflects Nelligan’s commitment to excellence and the lifesaving work Oakland Park Fire Rescue performs every day.
The City of Oakland Park has launched a pilot Development Application Activity Map to provide a more accessible, visual way to view development activity throughout the community. The new online tool displays active development applications in a geographic format, making it easier for residents, business owners, and other stakeholders to see where projects are proposed or under review.
Users can click on a project to view details such as the project name, address, status, and a brief project summary. The map is designed to improve access to project information and support greater transparency in the development review process. Transparency remains a priority for the city, and this pilot map is one more step toward making information easier to find, easier to understand, and more readily available to the public. City staff will continue to review the pilot tool for functionality, accuracy, and overall usefulness.
Oakland Park recently celebrated the graduation of the 2026 Local Government Academy (LGA) class, recognizing a dedicated group of residents and business owners committed to learning more about their city and getting involved in the community.
Over the course of the 10-week program, participants received a behind-the-scenes look at how Oakland Park operates through interactive presentations, facility tours, and discussions with staff from departments including Fire Rescue, Broward Sheriff’s Office, Public Works, Parks and Leisure Services, Engineering and Community Development, and more.
The Local Government Academy gives participants a deeper understanding of the services, projects, and people that keep Oakland Park moving forward. Many graduates continue their civic involvement by volunteering, serving on advisory boards, and participating in community initiatives.
