Gators secure multiple wins, personal bests and all-time marks in strong all around showing
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida Gators Track and Field completed day one of the Pepsi Florida Relays on Friday, where 13 athletes recorded top ten finishes and three athletes made additions to Florida’s all-time top ten lists.
HIGHLIGHTS
Florida opened the day with a strong performance in the field events, highlighted by Leikel Cabrera Gay’s continued dominance in the javelin. The junior remains undefeated on the season, capturing first place for his second consecutive meet. Cabrera Gay secured the win by more than five meters and recorded his top mark of 72.53m (237-11) on his fourth attempt.
On the track, the Florida men advanced through the preliminary heats of the 4x100m relay. The quartet of Trenton Howard, Jaden Wiley, Almond Small and Wanya McCoy posted a time of 38.67, winning their heat and earning an automatic berth in the final.
Following an inclement weather delay that temporarily halted the women’s javelin competition, Abigail Elmore returned to action and delivered a personal-best throw of 39.09m (128-3).
In his outdoor debut in the Orange and Blue, Oussama Allaoui delivered a standout performance in the 1500m. The freshman finished first overall with a time of 3:39.45, moving to No. 3 on the program’s all-time list. Riley Smith followed closely, clocking 3:40.33 in the same section to rank No. 4 all-time. Gavin Nelson and Riley Novack also recorded personal best performances in the event.
