The Gators move to 32-0 all-time against teams in the Big 12
TEMPE, Ariz. – The No. 7/5 Florida Gators Lacrosse team (8-2, 1-0) kicked off their Big 12 slate with 14-8 win over the Arizona Sun Devils (5-7, 0-1) on Sunday afternoon.
Florida was led by Clark Hamilton who scored five goals and Gabby Greene who added three goals. On defense Theresa Bragg caused two turnovers and got two groundballs as Maya Soskin made eight saves in 32:03 minutes played.
The Sun Devils were led by Lydia Oldknow who registered five points (4 G/1 A), as Jordyn Behar (2 A), Addie Shevitz (2 G) and Teagan Ng (2 G) each tallied two points.
How It Happened
FIRST QUARTER (Gators 5, Sun Devils 2)
* The Gators would start the game off by getting a free position goal from Caroline Hoskins at 13:26, before goals from Clark Hamilton (10:58), Frannie Hahn (9:16) and Gabby Greene (6:13) to take a 4-0 lead.
* Arizona State would get their first of the game from Lydia Oldknow at 5:19 to make it 4-1
* Clark Hamilton (3:58) and Tegan Ng (2:38) would trade goals at the end of the first quarter as the Gators would take a 5-2 lead into the second quarter
SECOND QUARTER (Gators 8, Sun Devils 6)
* The start of the second quarter would see the Sun Devils and Gators trade a pair of goals, as Teagan Ng (14:08) and Lydia Oldknow (8:55) would score for ASU and Clark Hamilton (10:05) and Gabby Greene (5:25) would score for the Gators.
* ASU would cut the Gators’ lead to 7-6 with goals from Lydia Oldknow (4:26) and Addie Shevitz (2:03).
* Clark Hamilton would give the Gators a two-goal lead going into the half with her fourth goal of the day at 00:17.
THIRD QUARTER (Gators 12, Sun Devils 7)
* The third quarter would see the Gators extend their lead as they got goals from Autumn Blair (9:21) and Gabbi Koury (7:20).
* Addie Shevitz would get ASU their first goal of the second half at 2:51 off a free position.
* The Gators would get two goals in the final 84 seconds of the third quarter, with Gabby Greene getting a hat trick at 1:24 and Kaitlyn Davies scoring with 00:17 left.
FOURTH QUARTER (Gators 14, Sun Devils 8)
* The fourth quarter saw the Gators try to slow the game down, as Arizona State scored their final goal of the day at 8:34 from Lydia Oldknow.
* A goal from Clark Hamilton at 5:34 and Autumn Blair at 00:58 would seal the game for the Gators.
* Maya Soskin would make thee saves in the fourth quarter to help the Gators grab the win.
Key Notes
* The Gators extended their win streak to five games, and in all five games they haven’t given up more than 10 goals.
* UF moved to 116-10 all-time in conference play, which includes 8-0 in Big 12 play. They also moved to 32-0 all-time against teams currently in the Big 12.
* The Gators defense once again held a team to under five goals in the second half, which they have done so in all but one of their 10 games this season.
* UF was able to hold Jordyn Behar to two points, both assists. This is well her season average of 3.45 assists per game and 5.60 points per game.
