WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The University of Miami women’s tennis team (6-2, 3-0 ACC) remain undefeated in conference play after a 4-1 victory against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons (7-7, 0-3) on Friday night.
The Demon Deacons jumped out first with a 6-0 win from Nevena Carton and Kady Tannenbaum over Raquel Gonzalez and Dominika Podhajecka, until Miami earned a 6-1 win from Sofia Rocchetti and Sebastianna Scilipoti over Evie Oxford and Sankavi Gownder.
Maria Vagas and Daria Volosova then battled for the 7-6 (5) win against Krystal Blanch and Aubrey Nisbet.
Rocchetti finished first on court two, taking down Blanch, 6-1, 6-2, before No. 94 Gonzalez extended the lead at the top court with a 6-3, 6-3 win against Carton. Wake Forest then earned a point when Oxford defeated Podhajecka, 6-3, 6-3, on court five.
Scilipoti then clinched the match with a 7-6 (4), 6-1 win over Tannenbaum at the No. 3 spot. When play was halted, Aely Arai was up 6-3, 4-4 and Volosova was up 6-4, 0-6, 2-1.
The Hurricanes will stay on the road to face NC State on Sunday.
