ATHENS, Ga. — The Florida Women’s Basketball Team had its sights set on a second straight win over a nationally-ranked opponent Sunday afternoon, but Georgia (22-8, 8-8) held the Gators to 38.0 percent shooting from the field, en route to a 71-58 victory. “Nidi” Yiech led Florida with 14 points on six of nine shooting, as the Gators’ bench combined to score 26 points on the day, Florida heads to Greenville, S.C. Wednesday, March 4 where the Gators (17-14, 5-11) will play Mississippi State in the first round of the SEC Tournament. The conference will distribute official seeding and game time information at the conclusion of today’s games.
KEY RUNS
1st Quarter (Lady Bulldogs 18, Gators 9)
* Georgia scored the first eight points of the day, and 15 of the first 20 as the Lady Bulldogs held Florida without a made shot for the first 8:23 of the game. “Nidi” Yiech ended the field goal drought on a driving layup with 1:37 to go in the period. Up until that point, all of the Gators scoring came from a seven for 10 performance from the free throw line, including five from the eighth-leading scorer in the nation, Liv McGill. Georgia’s leading scorer on the season, Dani Carnegie, scored a game-high 10 points in the first.
2nd Quarter (Lady Bulldogs 35, Gators 23)
* Emilija Dakic drained a pair of three-pointers to open the second quarter, slicing the Lady Bulldogs’ advantage to three, 18-15, and forcing Georgia to call timeout. Florida tied the score at 23 with 4:03 remaining until the half on an Alexia Dizeko layup, but the Lady Bulldogs put together a 12-0 run to close out the period. Mia Woolfolk paced Georgia with seven points on three of three shooting in the stanza, while Dakic’s six points led the Gators.
3rd Quarter (Lady Bulldogs 54, Gators 33)
* It was still an 11-point Lady Bulldogs advantage, 41-30, when Georgia scored 13 straight to push their lead out to 24. Me’Arah O’Neal ended the run making one of two free throws with 1:57 on the clock, and a Laila Reynolds jumper with 1:17 remaining ended the scoring in the period.
4th Quarter (Lady Bulldogs 71, Gators 58)
* Georgia scored the first basket of the fourth, but the Gators eventually strung together a 9-1 run slicing the lead to 12, 65-53, with 2:46 to go. That was as close as Florida would get the remainder of the game, however, as the Lady Bulldogs closed out the 13-point win. The Gators had their best shooting quarter of the game draining eight of 15 shots as they outscored Georgia by eight in the fourth.
KEY STATS
* Georgia connected on 43.9 percent of their field goal attempts (25 for 57), while Florida made 38.0% of theirs (19 of 50).
* The Gators went 14 for 24 from the free throw line while the Lady Bulldogs made 13 of 17.
* The Gators reserves outscored Georgia’s bench 26-4.
* Georgia outrebounded the Gators 9-3 on the offensive glass, which led to a 9-2 edge in second chance points.

* Liv McGill’s eight points in the game give her 1,258 for her career, moving her past Jennifer George ’13 (1,257) into 20th place on the Gators’ career scoring chart.
* Liv McGill’s eight points give her 647 on the season, and extend her own program single-season scoring record.
* Nyadieng Yiech scored in double figures for the eighth time this season (14 points), and led the team in scoring for the first time in her career. This marks the first time this year that one of the Gators’ “Big Three” of Liv McGill, Me’Arah O’Neal and Liala Reynolds didn’t lead the team in scoring.
* Florida’s 23 points in the first half tied for the lowest scoring half of the season for the Gators (Nov. 16, 2025, 2nd half at Navy; Jan. 11, 2026, 2nd half at Auburn).
