North Texas Women, South Florida Men Capture 2026 American Indoor Track & Field Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The North Texas women and the South Florida men captured the team titles at the 2026 American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday.

North Texas claimed its first American indoor championship since joining the conference and the second indoor title in program history (2005, Sun Belt). It marks the third consecutive year a women’s program has won its first American championship (Tulane, 2025; Charlotte, 2024). On the men’s side, South Florida won its third straight title, joining Houston (2015-22) as the only programs to capture three consecutive American team championships.

East Carolina’s Kelly Ufodiama was named the American Women’s Most Valuable Performer after scoring 21.25 points. She won the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes and ran on the fourth-place 4×400-meter relay team. South Florida’s Lilah Versluis earned women’s Freshman of the Year honors, scoring six points with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump and a seventh-place finish in the high jump. North Texas’ coaching staff, led by Doug Marshall, was named the American Staff of the Year.

Wichita State’s Josh Parrish was named the American Men’s Most Valuable Performer after scoring 22.5 points. He finished second in the long jump and 60-meter hurdles, placed sixth in the triple jump and 200-meter dash, and ran on the seventh-place 4×400-meter relay team. South Florida’s Alesandro Cardoso-Williams was named men’s Freshman of the Year after winning the long jump and finishing fourth in the triple jump for 15 points. South Florida’s coaching staff, led by Erik Jenkins, earned its third consecutive American Staff of the Year honor.

London Maxwell of North Texas was the first gold medal of the day in the one-mile run with a winning time of 4:48.60.  Tulane’s Elana Liano was second with a time of 4:49.08, while Abrielle Schweitzer was the bronze medalist at 4:50.75.

In women’s high jump, UTSA’s Edlin Laur earned gold with a mark of 1.84 meters. Wichita State’s Jalese Alexander finished in second place, clearing 1.84 meters in two tries, while Rice’s Josie Taylor earned third place at 1.81 meters.

In the men’s mile, the top three finishers all broke the previous meet record. Tulsa’s Sean Korsmo was the gold medalist with a time of 4:02.99.  Charlotte’s Zak Freeland edged out South Florida’s Karim Belmahdi for silver medal at 4:03.70, while Belmahdi finished at 4:03.72.

The men’s heptathlon wrapped up with Janre Jogi holding onto his day one lead and finishing with the gold medal with 5,535 points.  Charlotte’s Joshua Horstmann earned silver with 5,443 points and Wichita State’s Rikard Throgen-Hedin earned bronze with 5,370 points.

Rice’s Barbora Malikova set a meet record in the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 51.97 seconds.  North Texas’ Aariyana Williams took the silver medal at 53.06 seconds, while Rice’s Riana Green was the bronze medalist at 53.68 seconds.

South Florida took the top four spots in the men’s 400-meter dash with Alexavier Monfries earning the gold medal with a time of 46.34.  Nethan Metelus earned the silver medal at 46.64 and Shevioe Reid earned the bronze medal at 46.76.

Rice’s Julia Johannesdottir earned the gold medal in the women’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.18 seconds.  East Carolina’s Kailey Elliott was the silver medalist at 8.29 seconds, while South Florida’s Doris Quainoo was the bronze medalist at 8.30 seconds.

Olu Williams of North Texas was the gold medal winner in men’s shot put with a mark of 18.49 meters.  Charlotte’s Jahnaul Ritzie was the silver medalist at 18.26 meters, while Rice’s Sultan Bakare took home the bronze medal with a mark of 18.03 meters.

North Texas’ Hendrick Hundl set a meet record in the men’s 60-meter hurdles at 7.70 seconds to earn the gold medal. Josh Parrish finished second at 7.71 seconds, while Rice’s Christian Edgar finished third at 7.86 seconds.

East Carolina’s Kelly Ufodiama won the gold medal in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.30 seconds, while Rice’s Saniya Friendly was the runner-up at 7.32 seconds.  Charlotte’s Ella Escobar was the bronze medalist at 7.42 seconds.

East Carolina’s Faith Spencer took home the gold medal in the triple jump with a leap of 12.85 meters, while Temple’s Inara Shell was the silver medalist at 12.82 meters.  North Texas’ Claire Spiller was the bronze medalist at 12.80 meters.

South Florida’s Jaleel Croal took home the gold medal in the men’s 60-meter dash, while Wichita State teammates Chairo Ogbebor (6.73) and Jason Parrish (6.75) earned silver and bronze.

Tulsa’s Billie Rouse was the gold medalist in the women’s 800-meter run with a time of 2:08.14.  Florida Atlantic’s Rosa Ten Berg finished in second with a time of 2:08.43, while South Florida’s Mercy Angaamchaab finished in third at 2:09.65.

Chase Lehr of North Texas captured his first gold medal in the men’s 800-mter run with a time of 1:47.67.  Tulsa had the silver and bronze medalist as Andrew Lutkenhaus finished in second with a time of 1:48.01, while Joseph Snyder finished in third place at 1:49.73.

Ufodiama earned her second gold medal of the day with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.14. Teammate Brianna Clayton was the second-place finisher at 23.75 seconds, while Rice’s Saniya Friendly was the bronze medalist at 23.78 seconds.

Croal earned his second gold medal with a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.89 seconds and teammate Nathan Metelus took home bronze with a 21.00 second finish.  East Carolina’s Rashun Fountain earned the silver medal at 20.93 seconds.

In the women’s 3,000-meter run, Sara Morefield took home the gold medal at 9:23.93.  Tulane’s Blezzin Kimutai finished second at 9:26.18, while North Texas’ London Maxwell finished in third place at 9:27.74.

Tulsa swept the men’s 3,000 meter run as Levi Rown (8:03.23), Ben Brown (8:03.49) and Luke Birdseye (8:03.72) all medaled.

In the men’s long jump, UTSA’s Jemuel Miller earned the gold medal with a leap of 15.85 meters.  Wichita State’s Asher Buggs-Tipton finished second at 15.50 meters, while Memphis’ Oageng Mdlela finished in third place at 15.46 meters.

In women’s shot put, Memphis took home gold and bronze with Jazmyn James (16.34 meters) and Poorna Raorane (15.70 meters).  UTSA’s Nyaluet Diew was the silver medalist at 16.17 meters.

Rice’s team of Riana Green, Petra Taylor, Arayna Mickles and Barbora Malikova took home the gold medal in the women’s 4×400 meter relay. Charlotte’s team of Alinah Sarratt, Jada Lloyd, Ella Escobar and Noel Evans were the silver medalist, while Lailah Hudson, Kendahl Tucker, C’Nai Childress and Aariyana Williams secured the team title for North Texas with a bronze medal.

Charlotte’s team of Michael Rice Jr., Jordan Polk-Webb, Chase Harrison, and Tal Hamel earned the gold medal in the men’s 4×400 meter relay. South Florida’s team of Devontie Archer, Joshua Crum, Nathan Metelus and Alexavier secured the team title for the Bulls with a silver medal. Memphis’ team of Kouto Anyika, Jacari Simpson, Bryson Wilson and Courland Noble earned the bronze medal.
