(On why the red zone offense has improved since the Bye Week) “I think just more shots on
goal has probably helped with just being down there more, better execution probably from
within the normal field as you get into the red zone to just get more shots on goal down
there. You’ve always wanted to kind of remain balanced in the red area so often you can get
there and even myself, you want to get the ball in the end zone. You get a little antsy and
want to throw it in quickly or whatever it is. I think just trying to remain patient as you get
down into the red zone and making sure that you come away with points is the biggest
thing. So, I think our coaching staff’s done a nice job of kind of tightening the red zone plan
each week so that we can continue to use carry over plays from the plan but also have a
few red zone specific plays based on how the defense changes and what yard line it
changes at.”
(On having a game of this magnitude at home) “Huge. Got the throwback unis back up and
great opportunity for our organization, for the city, for the fan base to come out and help
support. As much as their fans of us, we’re fans of them, from all of us wanting to continue
to put a product on the field that everybody can be proud of and entertaining. We are in the
entertainment business and I’ve got to believe that our players are going to play their tails
off for our city on Sunday.”
(On the Colts defensive rush scheme) “Yeah, it’s a ton. Lou’s [Colts DC Lou Anarumo] been
doing this at a high level for a while and got a lot of respect for him, not only as a coach, but
as a person. And he definitely is game plan specific within some of the roles and
responsibilities he has his players in. And not quite obviously Arizona in terms of the
structure, but in terms of some of the frustrations and things that it can cause you from a
game planning standpoint can be similar in a lot of ways where, like you said, they’ll rush
four, they’ll rush five, they’ll rush six, they’ll rush seven, and you don’t quite always know
when it’s going to happen. It’s why they’ve been pretty good. So something that we have to
be patient with throughout the week in terms of the plan and then going out on Sunday and
hey, look, we may not always be perfect here guys, but let’s just make sure we’re
communicated from a protection standpoint and hey, understand where your quick
element throws are in case maybe we do miss something that we have to get the ball out
and be able to kind of live and play another day.”
(On what stands out about RB Jonathan Taylor’s game) “Yeah, definitely one of the more
talented players in the league. If you try to arm tackle him, that’s not exactly a recipe for
success. He can take them 80 and 90 [yards] and he also can get some of the tough hard
yards. In the pass game they’ve used them, I think at a pretty good click this year as well.
So very talented. We have to be at our best this week in terms of clamp tackling, pursuit to
the football. It’s going to truly take all 11 when it comes to getting him down on the ground.”
(On if he has heard of a quarterback playing with a fibula facture like Colts QB Daniel Jones
is this week) “I think, yeah. I have seen some crazy stuff in terms of what you’re able to play
with at the quarterback position especially if you understand that as a staff and try to mold
the plan to let them go operate without maybe putting them in situations where you’re
asking them to go and do too much without knowing that, plays are going to happen,
scrambles, movements but he’s playing at a high level all season this year. They’ve
protected him at a really high level as well. I think their O-line has played well this whole
season, so it’s definitely doable.”
(On the development of QB Daniel Jones) “Great example. He’s always been a very natural
pure passer; the ball comes off of his hand really well. I think that his footwork and his
shoulder balance, his balance of his body position this year is much improved. He’s just
always throwing from a good foundation and base not getting leaned one way or the other.
The balls able to come out when his back foot hits and it’s been very accurate for the most
part this season. So, you can definitely tell that he put a lot of work into himself in the off-
season program and their coaching staff there has definitely done a nice job of
collaborating to get the best out of him and you’re seeing that. They’ve built it to have some
good skilled players around them as well. The O-line is playing at a high level. So when the
quarterback can kind of just go play free and it doesn’t have to be you having to make every
single play that typically ends up leading for a little bit more success for the quarterback.”
(On how he has worked to not get the team to peak too early) “Yeah, I think that you look at
the Chargers game and then you go to Arizona and then you obviously win the game the
other day. And is it perfect? No, but I think the guys understand that what we’re trying to do
throughout the week, even though limiting some of the practice full speed reps is—we had
a meeting about it this morning with the players and coaches—is our individual during the
week. It can’t just be EDDs, everyday drills and just go do whatever, to get them loosened
up. Everything that we do on the grass has to be super intentional for a drill, a fundamental,
a technique that needs to show up for this game to win this game on Sunday. And also, to
improve. If there’s fundamentals and techniques that every position that ultimately, you’re
trying to improve upon. I want our coaching staff and players to be very deliberate about
that throughout the week of practice and preparation this week, knowing that you’ve still
got to save their legs and their bodies and be smart with them, but we don’t have any time
to waste out there and I think our players and staff have done a nice job of that so far.”
(On if he has been a part of a series where a team has won ten games in a row like the
Jaguars have done against the Colts at home) “No to answer your question and look, the
message to the team today was—I’m sure you guys are all going to ask them the same
question and every year is a new year. Every team’s a new team and I think we understand
that we’re different. Everything’s new and different and every year is different. So yeah, I
think you can hold onto that as something in your back pocket as a player, but ultimately,
we’ve got to go beat the Colts, this year’s Colts and this team on Sunday and hopefully our
crowd and fan base is a big part of that.”
(On if you mention the streak before the game) “No, man. No. It’s not anything that I’m
thinking about. I hope our players are not thinking about that either.”
(On what it is like when a pass rusher gets into a groove) “Yeah, I think confidence is a hell
of a thing. Momentum’s a hell of a thing, when you’re able to go play freely and not be
thinking about anything, guys just going out and playing and letting it rip and once you start
to get a few and you get next closer to the queue and you’re affecting the game, that
momentum, we all feel, everybody feels it on all in all three phases. When you get people in
known passing situations, well there’s a different feel now. There’s a little bit of a different
vibe to knowing when the coverage and the trust that maybe that rusher, those guys have
up front in the guys behind them, that they’re going to be able to be in the right positions to
do their jobs to help those guys be able to go up front. I think that’s some of the stuff you’re
seeing.”
(On the performance of CBs Jarrian Jones and Jourdan Lewis last week and the plan for
when S Eric Murray is healthy) “Yeah, I think both of those guys, obviously Jourdan was just
coming back. Jarrian’s done a really nice job in his absence in a lot of ways. So, you want to
continue that ascension and that development because it helps us on the grass on
Sundays, whether it’s tackling, whether it’s coverage, whether it’s making a play on the ball,
communication. So, you’ve got to be unique and creative in terms of rep count, packaging
and making sure that you’re getting your best 11 on the grass as much as possible. And
then, like I mentioned with okay, safeties, is it dime, is it little dime, whatever those
packages are to ultimately get guys in positions to do what they do best. And I think that
that’s been a work in progress and hopefully something we can continue to build off of.”
(On matching up with Colts TE Tyler Warren) “Yeah, I don’t know if you guys saw the play
that he made at the end of regulation against Atlanta on the fourth and two, I believe it was
where they kind of got bluffed into a zero check. He throws the flat route out there, the
nickel is literally in the best position that you could possibly be in to make a play to end the
game. And Daniel puts it up to Tyler right up here and he just eats the ball and makes a play
and throws the guy off of him. They’re going to make some plays, there’s no question. But I
think that if we can get some of our, whether it’s LBs, safeties, whatever it is from a
matchup standpoint, we’ve got to go get hands on these guys a little bit more and try to
stop them early in the down. That’s why the coverage in the rush is so important.”
(On if his offense features multiple guys in the tight end room) “I think it’s just a good
example of guys stepping up and making plays when their numbers are called. And
Brenton’s [TE Brenton Strange] a guy that we’ve wanted to continue to get more to as a
player that when he catches the ball can do something with it. And the more you can get
those guys in space, the better. And it allows you to be a little bit more balanced in the run
and the pass when you have 12 personnel and tight ends that can do both. So, all those
guys have made a play for us at some point this season and hopefully to continue to use
those guys maybe even more, 12, 13, whatever it is to get those guys on the grass.”
(On what Cole Van Lanen has done this season) “Pretty impressive. The guys just—he
doesn’t say a ton, but he cares a lot and really prepares the right way. Doesn’t flinch when
his number’s called and has really helped us get to the point of where we’re at right now. I
think he played pretty darn good on Sunday as well, so he’s a guy that everybody trusts,
believes in and really happy to have him right now.”
(On the importance of this game) “I think that we all kind of know what’s riding on these
kind of games. Division games in December. The season doesn’t end one way or the other
on Sunday. It’s our next opportunity against a very quality opponent that also just happens
to be in our division and we we’re all fighting for it. We’re all fighting to stay up there and to
compete each week to give yourself a chance at the end of the year. But your ops are
starting to get a little bit smaller. The windows starting to close in terms of opportunities on
Sundays. Our players work really hard from all year round for these opportunities on
Sunday. And to know that as you get into December, well you’re only getting so many more
of these ops, we’re going to practice a whole heck of a lot more than we’re going to play
ultimately. So, taking advantage of the ops that are here and hey, we’ve got to go seize the
moment as well.”
(On new Florida Defensive Coordinator Brad White) “Oh yeah, Brad’s one of the smarter
guys, coaches I’ve been around at any level. True teacher of the game. I learned so much
from Brad in terms of the way that he saw the game. He is one of the more detailed,
organized coaches I’ve been around in terms of his process throughout the week, his
checklists throughout the week and then his game plans to be able to go and cause issues
for people. It gave me problems every day in practice, it’s multiple. He knows how to
scheme people up. He does. Aside from that phenomenal person and human being, really
adds to everything that Summy [University of Florida Head Coach Jon Sumrall] is going to
be about and that place hopefully is going to be about. And I’m really happy to have those
guys as neighbors. Our families were very close and Brad’s from Rhode Island, we’re high
school rivals. So it was crazy that two coordinators in the SEC were both from Rhode
Island. I was a couple years younger than Brad, but I went and watched Brad play. I think I
was in eighth grade, he was playing at Bishop Hendricken High School with Will Blackmon
and my dad was the head coach at Salve [Regina University] and we were going there to
scout and watch those guys play. I still remember Brad with his big neck role playing
linebacker and fullback there. So, we go way back and we’re very close.”

(On the importance of the game) “Yeah, for sure. This point in the season, they’re all huge
then given division opponent, obviously the records of both of our teams. I think all that, the
point of the season that we’re in, the opportunities are getting less and less every week. So,
I think just where we’re at in our season, it’s a big game. They’re all important though. All of
the games are important to get to this point to put ourselves in position, but yeah, definitely
big game.”
(On the importance of being at home for this game) “It’s going to be huge. I’m excited just to
see the atmosphere, obviously later in the season. And just with where we’re at and our
crowds have been awesome all year and every time we’re in these big games, whether
they’re primetime later in the season, big games or whatever it is, division games, our fans
always show up, so I expect no different. Really excited to feel the energy and just see a
packed stadium.”
(On what stands out about the Colts defense) “It’s a really good defense. I think really good
players for one, obviously, but also the way they’re coached, their scheme, the things that
they do. I think they make it hard on offenses, whether it’s identification and some of their
pressures that they bring. They change the look for quarterbacks a lot. They do a good job
disguising. I mentioned the pressures already. They do a lot of different things to try to keep
you off balance. I think they have really good plans going into each game, so a lot of respect
for Lou [Colts Defense Coordinator Lou Anarumo], their defensive coordinator, and
obviously all the guys that are playing out there too. The players, they’re really good players
and flying around. They’re doing a lot of really good things right now and they’re having a
great year, so it’ll be a good challenge for us.”
(On what stood out about WR Brian Thomas Jr.’s performance on Sunday) “Yeah, just like
you said, obviously he’s been out for a little bit and having him back was awesome. I think
just for our team, our offense, opening some things up and for him just to be back out there
with us was great. And when he did get his opportunities, he made the most of them, like
you said. And every week’s going to be a little bit different. I expect him to get more and
more opportunities, the type of player he is, it’s going to happen. So not too fixated on that,
but I thought the way he played, making plays when he did get his opportunities but
blocking. He blocked really well run game, pass game, had the huge block for Jakobi [WR
Jakobi Meyers] down the field. Just seeing stuff like that, especially a guy that’s been out
last few weeks with an injury then coming back and he’s still physical, wanting to go block
for his teammates. That just says a lot about our team, our offense, guys fighting for each
other and just the unselfishness is really cool. So excited for him to be more and more
involved as we go. And I know he is going to make a ton of plays for us.”
(On why the red zone offense since the BYE Week) “I’d have to go back and watch. I don’t
know if there’s one thing specifically, I think we’ve just been playing better offensively since
about that point to be honest. So, all year I think we’ve gotten better every week and it’s not
always straight up every week, we’ve had a little, couple bumps in the road, but I think
offensively we’ve just gotten better every week. So more efficient, better on first and
second down, less third and long situations and I think throwing the ball in the red zone
specifically, we’ve been a lot better.”
(On how Head Coach Liam Coen has improved the red zone offense) “We do a really good
job game planning. Different defenses, they have certain things they to do in the red zone
and you never know exactly what you’re going to get. You have a pretty good idea for the
most part. Teams have what they want to do and what they do well, so you have a good idea
and then you go into it with a plan. I think our ability to get to a lot of different plays at
different times have multiple plays on and to be in the right look, I think that’s helped us
and we’ve gotten better and better at executing it. So, I think you’re seeing that we’re being
more efficient down there. And then I think now a lot of teams are playing a lot more shell in
the red zone, it’s just how it’s gone, trying to stop the pass. And I think there’s some
opportunities to run the ball and when we’ve had our opportunities to do that, we’ve done a
good job with that too.”
(On RB LeQuint Allen Jr.’s personality on the field) “He’s one of a kind. I love that guy. You
probably don’t want to be on the other team, but as far as being on our team, love that guy.
So, it’s just the way he takes so much pride in all the little things, and I think that’s what’s
cool. Everybody wants the ball. If you’re a skill guy, especially on offense, all these guys
want the ball. And I’m sure he wants the ball every play too, but his mindset of affecting and
impacting the game when he doesn’t have the ball has been—I don’t know if I’ve played
with a guy like him, to be honest. Just the amount of pride he takes in blocking, putting his
body on the line for his teammates, for whatever it is, he doesn’t care. Whatever he is asked
to do, he is happy to do it and excited and he brings an edge. He’s really a special player
and it’s been fun to be with him. It’s been fun being on the same sideline as him. I’m sure
other guys, not as much that we’re playing against.”
(On if pulling Allen Jr. away from Titans DT Jeffery Simmons was to protect him or Simmons)
“Maybe a little bit of both. Jeffrey had the size on him, but LeQuint is the guy that you don’t
want to mess with. But no, I just didn’t want him to get thrown out of the game or anything. I
didn’t want to take any chances there. Hey, we’ve got a lot of ball left. You’ve got to—let’s
just be smart.”
(On multiple players stepping up on offense) “Yeah, it’s been awesome. I think just how
guys have prepared every week and have been ready to play. There’s no greater test than
that, if you’re ready to play or not, is get out there and you’ve got to go play the rest of the
game because we’ve got guys hurt and we’ve had a lot of that and guys have played really
well in different spots. Obviously, Cole’s [OL Cole Van Lanen] been highlighted, but Chuma
[OL Chuma Edoga] stepped up, Wyatt [OL Wyatt Milum] stepped up. We’ve had a lot of
guys that have had to do that. Not quite the level that I guess Cole’s had to because it’s
been multiple different positions and full games he’s had to play, but all the guys have been
ready to do it when their number been called. So, it’s impressive. I think just the depth we
have on the O-line is such a weapon for us. And guys being able to move around because
it’s hard to go a whole season—it’s pretty much impossible a whole season without
anybody getting hurt. So, it’s been cool for those guys to be able to switch in and out and
play really well.”
(On if him and WR Jakobi Meyers can develop more chemistry) “Yeah, I have all the faith in
the world in him. I think the big thing is he’s still new to our system and—he’s comfortable
with all the guys—but he’s new to the system and I think there is part of that for him. I know
every week he learns more and more and I think it gets more comfortable just because the
first couple weeks it’s almost like you’re just memorizing the plan and what he has to do.
And he did a great job of that, but now he’s actually been able to learn the reasoning behind
a bunch of different things and why we’re doing it because he’s a really smart guy that picks
up on that. And that’s only going to make him play even faster just because it’s not so much
thinking about what he has to do, he just knows it and it comes more second nature, so I
think that’s going to happen as the season goes on. And I’m excited more for him and
obviously we’re helping him out whenever I can, when need be. He doesn’t really make
many mistakes. He does a good job, but I think that’s the exciting part is that’s just going to
continue to grow as he is here longer and we keep communicating and we’ve put him in a
lot of different positions, asked him to do a lot, and there hasn’t been anything he hasn’t
been able to handle, so going to keep building on it.”
(On if he pays attention to the home win streak against the Colts) “Yeah, it’s a new year. I’m
sure, who knows, in their building they might be using that as fuel. I’m sure they are. And for
us, it’s a new year though. We can’t hang our hats on something that this team hasn’t done.
We haven’t beat this—this Jags team hasn’t beat this Colts team here at home in 2025. So,
we have a big game in front of us and know they’re going to be ready, they’re going to be
ready to roll and so will we. But yeah, you can’t really rely on the past. You’ve got to go do it
this year.”
(On if his mindset is different when in playoff contention) “Yeah, just the team is—I feel like,
you hate to say it, but it is just true. The excitement around the team and the energy is just
different when you’re in the hunt and you’re playing for the playoffs in the postseason.
Obviously, when you’re not, you bring everything you can every day. But the feeling around
the team of just we know that the biggest games are still coming up for us and that we’re
playing for a lot. And that’s why you play and that’s, and that’s what makes it fun being in
this position. So yeah, it is different. I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t, so it’s exciting.”
