Gabia Paskauskas secured a win in the first round of ITA All-Americans, securing a spot in Thursday’s round of 32 main draw.
CARY, N.C.- Florida women’s tennis began main draw action at the ITA All-American Championships, highlighted by a three-set victory from sophomore Gabia Paskauskas. Newcomer, Valery Gynina, was also featured in the main draw bracket, but fell short in the round of 64.
Paskauskas secured her spot in the Round of 32 after defeating NC State’s Anna Zyryanova, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. She will now face the tournament’s No. 6 seed, Piper Charney of Michigan, on Thursday, with play starting at 12:30 p.m.
Splitting the round of 64 results for the Gators, junior Valery Gynina battled through a tight three-setter before falling to Oklahoma’s Julia Garcia Ruiz, 2-6, 7-5, 6-3. Gynina will continue to play in the consolation bracket, where she is set to meet Mayu Crossley of UCLA at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday.
