The Fort Lauderdale Commission has three finalists for a new city attorney
The Commission received an update on the search for a new City Attorney. The position was advertised from July 23 to August 22, 2025, and 30 applications were submitted. Following interviews, the City Attorney Search Committee recommended three finalists for further consideration: Paul G. Bangel, Shari L. McCartney, and Angela “Angel” Rosenberg. Commissioners will meet with the candidates individually for interviews and plan to make a final selection at their October 23, 2025 meeting
The Commission discussed ways to strengthen the Public Art and Placemaking Program, which was created in 2020 to bring more art and creative spaces into Fort Lauderdale. The program was designed to set aside a portion of large construction projects for public art, but contributions have been limited, and staff presented options to expand participation and ensure more consistent funding. Ideas included requiring art or placemaking features in key areas of the city and creating incentives for private development to contribute. The Fiscal Year 2026 budget already includes funding to support art events, temporary art installations, and program administration.
