Exceedingly Tight Pro, ProAm Class Championships Within Handful of Points September 16, 2025By Tony DiZinnoIMSA Wire Service |
Entry List (Click Here) DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The intensity and excitement of the 2025 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season continues with its trip to the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway for a pair of pivotal races that cap off the North American continental portion of the calendar. Rounds 9 and 10 at Indianapolis are the last two before the championships are decided in Europe as part of the Lamborghini World Finals, with races at Misano in Italy, Nov. 6-7 before the Lamborghini World Finals races Nov. 8-9. Drivers vying for both the North America and World Finals championships will be on display first in Indianapolis. At Road America, the Pro and ProAm title battles came alive with standout drives and continued consistency from the contenders. Only four points separate the Pro class first and second place pairings, and only one separates first and second in ProAm. The Am and LB Cup championship leaders appear a little more assured heading into Indianapolis, but it only takes one off weekend for these scripts to flip. Pro The Wayne Taylor Racing and TR3 Racing battle atop the charts continues, with TR3 holding a slim lead heading into Indianapolis by just four points, 92 to 88. Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson enter with the momentum after a perfect Road America weekend of a maximum 32 points – 16 apiece per race with 15 points per win and one per pole – in the No. 1 Wayne Taylor Racing, Lamborghini Palm Beach, Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2. The duo matched what they achieved at Sebring to start the season. Their Sunday win at Road America came courtesy of what Formal called the “favorite” drive of his illustrious, 25-win Lamborghini Super Trofeo career as he ran a series of qualifying-style laps to gain enough time to offset a 10-second post-race time penalty for a jump start. Meanwhile Will Bamber and Elias De La Torre maintained their consistency with a pair of runner-up results in the No. 29 TR3 Racing, Lamborghini Miami, Huracán. They have six podium finishes in eight starts, and it was revealed post-Road America that Bamber persevered through the weekend with a dislocated and broken left toe. It meant he right-foot braked for the first time in years and proved a quick study to keep TR3 in prime title contention. Nick Persing sits third in the No. 8 WTR, Lamborghini Palm Beach, Huracán with Scott Huffaker and Jaden Conwright fourth in the No. 22 World Speed Motorsports, Lamborghini Hawaii, Huracán. At 18 and 22 points back respectively, they’ll need big weekends in Indianapolis to offset the deficit. ProAm There have been seven different winning pairings in eight ProAm races so far. That said, the five-car battle for the class championship heading into Road America has been realistically trimmed to two. The top two here from MLT Motorsports and TR3 Racing have both showcased consistency throughout the season and have a one-point difference entering Indianapolis, 77 to 76. Tadas Karlinskas and Darius Trinka’s ability to steer clear of trouble at Road America in their No. 11 MLT Motorsports, Lamborghini Charlotte, Huracán brought them their third straight runner-up finish in ProAm. Trinka hailed Karlinskas’ “Matrix” level ability to scythe through other cars and bring the car to another podium finish. They’ve not won since Sebring when they were with another team, but they’ve been on the podium in three of four races with MLT. The pair of Conrad Geis and Jason Hart in the No. 67 TR3 Racing, Lamborghini Miami, Huracán has been a quiet model of form with a breakthrough win achieved at Road America to close within one point of Trinka and Karlinskas. The win there marked the pair’s fourth podium finish of the season. Nicky Hays and Antoine Comeau (No. 30 ANSA Motorsports, Lamborghini Orlando, Huracán) moved up to third in points but are 22 points back. The Flying Lizard Motorsports, Lamborghini Newport Beach, teammates endured a tough Road America weekend, but both Andy Lee and Slade Stewart (No. 14 Huracán) and Marc Miller and Paul Nemschoff (No. 41 Huracán) have race-winning potential despite being now 23 and 26 points back in the standings. Am Championship leaders Glenn McGee and Graham Doyle had their first winless weekend of 2025 at Road America but still hold a healthy 17-point lead in Am in their No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing, Lamborghini Palm Beach, Huracán. McGee heads to Indianapolis where he swept last year in class. Their closest rivals this year split the two race wins at Road America. David Staab (No. 48 Precision Performance Motorsports, Lamborghini Palm Beach, Huracán) and Lindsay Brewer and Jem Hepworth (No. 2 RAFA Racing, Lamborghini Austin, Huracán) are tied for second in points. Staab won Saturday’s first race at Road America while Hepworth completed a pass of Doyle in Sunday’s second race to bring the all-female lineup into victory lane. LB Cup Nick Groat scored a pivotal weekend sweep at Road America in his No. 57 ONE Motorsports, Lamborghini Newport Beach, Huracán to leap out to a 26-point lead in pursuit of his second straight LB Cup championship. Four other LB Cup entries scored podiums at Road America, but none ranks higher than fourth in the standings. Lamborghini Super Trofeo holds two 45-minute practice sessions on Thursday with qualifying on Friday morning. Races are set for 4 p.m. ET and local time Friday and 5:10 p.m. Saturday. 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Indianapolis Race 1 Winners: Pro: Bryson Morris/Loris Cabirou, No. 30 ANSA Motorsports ProAm: Keawn Tandon/Hannah Grisham, No. 55 Forty7 Motorsports Am: Anthony McIntosh/Glenn McGee, No. 69 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti LB Cup: Nick Groat, No. 57 ONE Motorsports 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America Indianapolis Race 2 Winners: Pro: Ernie Francis Jr./Giano Taurino, No. 88 TR3 Racing ProAm: Luke Berkeley/Garrett Adams, No. 64 MLT Motorsports Am: Anthony McIntosh/Glenn McGee, No. 69 Wayne Taylor Racing with Andretti LB Cup: Rodrigo Vales, No. 34 TR3 Racing |
