Florida Soccer Continues SEC Action versus Top 25 Opponents – at No. 24 Oklahoma and vs No. 15 South Carolina

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Florida soccer continues its Southeastern Conference season opening stretch versus top-25 teams this week. The Gators are at No. 24 Oklahoma Thursday for a match that airs live on the SEC Network and returns home to face No. 15 South Carolina on Sunday.

It came right down until the end as Florida opened SEC action with a 3-2 loss to No. 9 Arkansas.<https://floridagators.com/news/2025/9/11/florida-soccer-edged-3-2-by-no-9-arkansas.aspx> The Razorbacks took a 3-0 lead into halftime as Nuria Craig scored in the fourth minute and then Vailana Tu’ua scored twice in a minute. The Gators scored early in the second when Kai Tsakiris was fouled in the box. She hit the penalty kick in the 48th minute. After a Razorback was whistled with a handball in the box, Madison Jones successfully converted that penalty kick to narrow the UA lead to one. Florida had opportunities, including Addy Hess’s final minute shot getting blocked by Arkansas’ goalkeeper.

Gator PKs:
The Gators are among 33 D1 teams to take three or more penalty kicks in 2025. Of those 33 teams, Florida (3) and Oklahoma (4) are among the 11 to score on each PK attempt. Kentucky leads the nation with seven PKs in 2025, successfully converting five. Florida’s three successful PKs is the most since hitting four of five in 2017.

No. 24 Oklahoma (7-1-1, 0-1 SEC)
Oklahoma was 10-7-1 in 2024 and tied for 13th in the SEC with a 3-6-1 record. The Sooners are picked 13th in the 2025 preseason SEC coaches poll.

Oklahoma is one of the 23 undefeated teams among the 346 NCAA Division I teams this season. The Sooners defeated then No. 22 Oklahoma State 4-1 in the season’s second match. OU defeated Creighton (4-1), East Texas A&M (4-0), Tulsa (4-1), Louisiana Tech (3-0), North Texas (1-0) and Nebraska-Omaha (5-1) with the lone tie coming at Texas State (1-1). The Sooners opened league play with a 2-1 loss at Kentucky.

Junior Naomi Clark is tied for eighth in the nation with seven goals while sophomore Kayla Keefer is tied for seventh with six assists. Senior defender Gracie Falla and sophomore forward Katie Shae Collins are on the 2025 Hermann Trophy Watch List. Senior Caroline Duffy has started every match and is 57nd in nation with a goals-against-average of 0.69.

No. 15 South Carolina (7-1-1, 1-0 SEC)
South Carolina was 11-4-7 in 2024 and fourth in the Southeastern Conference with a 5-2-3 record. South Carolina has met one ranked team this season, defeating then No. 25 Ohio State 1-0 in Columbia, S.C. The Gamecocks opened league play with a 2-1 win at Alabama and play host to Mississippi on Thursday.

Freshman Mackenzie Johnson is the USC goals (5) and points (11) leader. Five goals ties for second among NCAA D1 freshmen. Senior Christina Tsaousis has started all but one match and her goals-against-average of 0.369 is No. 16 in the nation.
