NEW YORK –– Sept. 14, 2025 –– A look at seven statistical highlights from games played during the 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. ET windows on Sunday, September 14, the second week of the 2025 season.
- With three games remaining in Week 2, 10 games were within one score in the fourth quarter and seven games were decided by one score (eight points or fewer), including three winning teams – Cincinnati, Dallas and Indianapolis – that recorded the game-winning score in the final minute of regulation or in overtime.
Four teams – Arizona, Cincinnati, Indianapolis and San Francisco – have begun the season 2-0 after missing the postseason last year. Las Vegas (vs. the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday) can also join this group. It marks the second consecutive season that at least four teams started 2-0 the season after missing the postseason.
The Indianapolis Colts, who scored on each of their seven offensive possessions in Week 1 and their first three offensive possessions in Week 2, became the first team in NFL history to score on each of their first 10 offensive possessions of a season. Indianapolis also became the first team in the Super Bowl era to not punt in either of their first two games in a season.
The Dallas Cowboys overcame a 10-point deficit and defeated the New York Giants, 40-37, in overtime in Week 2. There were six lead changes in the fourth quarter and overtime, tied for the most in a game in NFL history (Minnesota at Baltimore on Dec. 8, 2013).
Dallas kicker Brandon Aubrey converted a 64-yard field goal to tie the game with no time remaining in the fourth quarter and a 46-yard field goal to win with no time remaining in overtime, becoming the first player ever to convert a game-tying field goal with no time remaining in the fourth quarter and a game-winning field goal with no time remaining in overtime in the same game.
Aubrey’s 64-yard field goal marked the third-longest field goal in NFL history, trailing only Justin Tucker’s 66-yard field goal on Oct. 21, 2023 and his own 65-yard field goal on Sept. 22, 2024.
Aubrey has four career field goals of 60-or-more yards, tied with Brett Maher (four) for the most 60-yard field goals in NFL history. - Detroit quarterback Jared Goff passed for 334 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions for a 156.0 passer rating while running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery each rushed for a touchdown in the Lions’ 52-21 win over Chicago.
Goff has five career starts in which his team scored at least 50 points, tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning (five) for the fourth-most such starts by a quarterback since 1950, trailing only Tom Brady (eight starts), Drew Brees (six) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Len Dawson (six).
Goff became the fifth player in NFL history with at least four career games with at least 300 passing yards, three touchdown passes and a passer rating of 150-or-higher, joining Tom Brady (six games), Drew Brees (six), Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner (five) and Ben Roethlisberger (four).
Goff, who is 30 years and 335 days old, became the fifth quarterback with at least 20 games with 300 passing yards and three touchdown passes under the age of 31, joining Patrick Mahomes (27 games, currently age 29), Pro Football Hall of Famer Dan Marino (26), Aaron Rodgers (23) and Drew Brees (20).
Gibbs and Montgomery have each rushed for a touchdown in 10 games as teammates, tied with the Pro Football Hall of Fame duos of Paul Hornung and Jim Taylor (10 games with Green Bay) and Hugh McElhenny and Joe Perry (10 games with San Francisco) for the most such games by running back teammates in NFL history.
Gibbs and Montgomery are the fourth pair of running back teammates in the Super Bowl era to each score a touchdown in the same game 12 times, joining Dallas’ Daryl Johnston and Pro Football Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith (14 games), Tampa Bay’s Mike Alstott and Warrick Dunn (12) and Cleveland’s Ernie Green and Pro Football Hall of Famer Leroy Kelly (12). - Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson, in his 96th career start, had four touchdown passes with no interceptions for a 128.6 passer rating in the Ravens’ 41-17 win over Cleveland.
Jackson has 11 career games with at least four touchdown passes and no interceptions, surpassing Patrick Mahomes (10 games) and Aaron Rodgers (10) for the most such games by a quarterback in his first 100 career starts in NFL history.
Jackson is the seventh quarterback in NFL history to record at least two touchdown passes and a passer rating of 90-or-higher in 10 consecutive games, including the postseason, joining Tom Brady (12 games from 2014-15 and 10 games in 2007), Drew Brees (10 games in 2011), Patrick Mahomes (11 games in 2018 and 10 games from 2021-22), Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning (13 games in 2004), Philip Rivers (13 games from 2017-18) and Aaron Rodgers (14 games from 2010-11). - Cincinnati wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who is 25 years and 197 days old, had 14 receptions for 165 yards and one touchdown in the Bengals’ 31-27 win against Jacksonville.
Chase is the fourth player in NFL history with at least 14 receptions in three career games, joining Keenan Allen (six games), Antonio Brown (four) and Jason Witten (three).
Chase has 11 career games with at least 10 receptions and 100 receiving yards, surpassing Justin Jefferson (10 games) and CeeDee Lamb (10) for the most such games by a player under the age of 26 in NFL history.
Chase has six career games with at least 10 receptions, 150 receiving yards and a touchdown reception, surpassing Pro Football Hall of Famer Isaac Bruce (five games) for the most such games by a player under the age of 26 in NFL history. - San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey had six receptions, 107 scrimmage yards (55 rushing, 52 receiving) and a touchdown reception in the 49ers’ 26-21 win at New Orleans.
McCaffrey, who has 52 career rushing touchdowns and 30 career touchdown receptions, became the third player in NFL history with at least 50 rushing touchdowns and 30 touchdown receptions, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk and Lenny Moore. - Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Davante Adams had six receptions for 106 yards and one touchdown and wide receiver Puka Nacua, in his 30th career game, had eight receptions for 91 yards and a 45-yard rushing touchdown in the team’s 33-19 win at Tennessee.
Adams has 33 career games with at least 100 receiving yards and a touchdown reception, tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Calvin Johnson (33 games) and Reggie Wayne (33) for the fifth-most such games since 1970. Only Pro Football Hall of Famers Jerry Rice (57 games), Randy Moss (53), Terrell Owens (42) and Marvin Harrison (41) have more.
Nacua has 202 career receptions and became the second player in NFL history with at least 200 receptions in his first 30 games, joining Odell Beckham Jr. (206 receptions).
Nacua has 2,697 career receiving yards and surpassed Pro Football Hall of Famer Lance Alworth (2,666 receiving yards) for the third-most receiving yards by a player in his first 30 career games in NFL history, trailing only Odell Beckham Jr. (3,035 receiving yards) and Justin Jefferson (2,735). - Pittsburgh quarterback Aaron Rodgers recorded his 508th career regular-season touchdown pass, tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Brett Favre (508 touchdown passes) for the fourth-most in NFL history. Only Tom Brady (649 touchdown passes), Drew Brees (571) and Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning (539) have more.

- Philadelphia quarterback Jalen Hurts recorded a fourth-quarter rushing touchdown in the Eagles’ 20-17 win at Kansas City in a rematch of Super Bowl LIX.
Hurts has 45 career games with a rushing touchdown, including the playoffs, surpassing Pro Football Hall of Famer Steve Young (44 games) for the third-most such games by a quarterback in NFL history, including the postseason. Only Cam Newton (65 games) and Josh Allen (58) have more. - Kansas City quarterback Patrick Mahomes totaled two touchdowns (one passing, one rushing) on Sunday.
Mahomes has 293 career touchdown passes, including the playoffs, tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning (293 touchdown passes) for the most touchdown passes by a player in his first nine seasons, including the postseason, in NFL history. - New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson passed for 450 yards and three touchdowns at Dallas in Week 2.
Wilson is the sixth player in NFL history with at least 400 passing yards and three touchdown passes in a game for three different teams, joining Kirk Cousins, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Moon, Carson Palmer and Vinny Testaverde.
Per Next Gen Stats, Wilson completed seven of 11 deep passes (pass attempts of 20-or-more yards) for 264 yards and three touchdowns with an interception in Week 2, the most deep passing yards by any quarterback in a game since at least 2016.

Jones is the fourth player in NFL history with at least 270 passing yards, a touchdown pass and a rushing touchdown in each of his team’s first two games of a season, joining Jack Kemp (1965 with Buffalo), Kyler Murray (2021 with Arizona) and Cam Newton (2011 with Carolina). - In the fourth quarter of the New England-Miami game in Week 2, Dolphins wide receiver Malik Washington had a 74-yard punt-return touchdown and Patriots running back Antonio Gibson had a 90-yard kickoff-return touchdown on consecutive plays.
It marks the second time in NFL history there was a punt return touchdown immediately followed by a kick return touchdown (Sept. 13, 1992 – Atlanta at Washington).
It marked the first game since Dec. 14, 2008 (New England at the Oakland Raiders) that had a punt or kick return touchdown on consecutive plays.
It marked the first game since Sept. 9, 2018 (Miami at Tennessee) with multiple kick or punt return touchdowns of 70-or-more yards in the fourth quarter.
