9/14/2025 | Football The game of football is one that requires immense focus and precision. Florida Atlantic linebacker Zyere Horton is a reflection of just that. The Georgia native began his collegiate career at Georgia Southern before his transfer to Florida Atlantic in the spring of 2023. ![]() “He has basically been one of my main benefactors, actually guiding me in the right direction and pouring into me to get where I’m at today,” Horton said. As the youngest of five, Horton has similar characteristics to those of his siblings. One characteristic in particular, his creativity, was derived from his brother Elijah. “Just seeing what he does on a daily basis, it gives me inspiration of how to see the world.” To express his creativity off the field, Horton has found a passion in graphic design. Since his high school years, Horton has edited pictures and videos of himself and other teammates. The inspiration came after Horton appeared on the cover of a Under the Radar highlight video. “I thought, I want to make more content like that. I want to be in control of my creativeness and tap into that creative outlet.” Horton previously completed edits of videos for his teammates, with some even offering to pay him. This was an opportunity for him to put his entrepreneurial skills to work and expand his creativity beyond the football field. With dreams of playing in the NFL, Horton emphasizes the importance of what comes after football. He mentions Cris Carter, the Pro Football Hall of Fame member who joined the Owls’ staff in 2024, as someone who has instilled this idea. “He’s a Hall of Famer, but he still had to find something to do after football.” For Horton, when the time comes, the graphic design industry is where he sees himself. Whether it is through marketing, media or sports graphics, Horton aspires to start his own business in the future. Horton graduated in the spring of 2024 with a bachelor’s degree in management. His future academic plan is to purse entrepreneurship or consulting. Until that time comes, Horton will continue to express his artistry on the field as the Owls’ second leading tackler, through three games, with 14 total tackles. And his skills off the field with graphic design work of teammates. |
