Freshman Katelyn Huber led the Gators in her collegiate debut with the second-lowest score by a freshman in program history.
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The No. 10 Florida women’s golf team finished 9-under for a third-place finish behind freshman Katelyn Huber’s 8-under fourth-place finish in the season opener at the Cougar Classic on Tuesday.
The Gators teed off the season by setting the program record team round (273) en route to its sixth top-4 performance in the last six outings at the Cougar Classic. UF’s final team score of 843 was the seventh lowest tournament total in program history.
In her collegiate debut, Huber shot all three rounds under par with a 68 (-3) today behind her first career round featuring a bogey-free 67 (-4) and round two of 70 (-1). The Gainesville’s native score of 205 is the second-lowest by a freshman all-time and tied sixth in program history. In her 54 holes, she made 38 par, 12 birdies and only four bogeys. She had stretches of 24 and 17 consecutive holes of bogey-free play.
Also debuting for the Orange and Blue, graduate transfer Megan Propeck earned a T17 finish at 1-under par as she logged a round three of 72 (+1). Sophomore Addison Klonowski also tied with Propeck at T17 for her 11th career top-25 finish in 12 total tournaments.
The final two Gator golfers in the lineup both tied for 42nd at +4 in juniors Inès Archer and Paula Francisco.
Florida has a quick turnaround and travels to the Inverness Intercollegiate Sept. 15-16 and defends their 2023 team title at biannual event.
