Women’s Soccer – Sharks open season with Dominant victory over Tigers

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The NSU Sharks earned a statement victory on opening night, as they routed Holy Family University 7-1 at the NSU Soccer Stadium. Alexa Bereczki, the reigning SSC Freshman of the Year, notched two goals to begin the 2025 campaign, marking the first multi-goal game of her career. Lova Korpas and Liwa Nilsson each recorded a goal and an assist, and Ginger Schulz added two assists for the Sharks. The seven goals are the most scored in coach Amy Vaughan‘s tenure and the second-most scored in a home match, second only to 11 goals against Florida Memorial back on September 7, 2019.

How it Happened

⦁ Bereczki opened the scoring almost six minutes in, scoring inside the box on an assist from Lova Korpas. Twelve minutes later, she scored again, this time on an assist from Schulz, giving the Sharks a 2-0 lead.
⦁ At the 24:20 mark, Korpas scored a goal of her own on an assist from Maja Isaksson, and Genesis Hernandez scored five minutes later on an assist from Liwa Nilsson, pushing the Sharks’ lead to 4-0.
⦁ Nilsson then scored the Sharks’ fifth goal at the 30:43 mark on Schulz’s second assist of the day.
⦁ Kenna Rozanki scored Holy Family’s lone goal just before the half, and the Sharks went into the locker room up 5-1. The first five goals of the first half were the most scored in a half since October 4, 2023, a victory over Palm Beach Atlantic.
⦁ Sofia Suarez scored at the 46:13 mark of the second half (assisted by Jianna Ramirez), and Freya Jones scored the Sharks’ final goal at 62:54.

What's Next

With the win, the Sharks move to 1-0-0 and will host Texas A&M International on Saturday, September 6th at 11am.
