Major changes are coming to Oakland Park, building on the momentum of the city’s first landmark downtown project, the Sky Building.
After years of public input, planning, and visionary leadership, the Oakland Park leaders are ready to continue transforming the heart of the city. The Horizon of Oakland Park (HOOP) leads this next chapter—a bold, mixed-use development that will rise where City Hall now stands.
This dynamic project marks a significant milestone in the city’s effort to create a walkable, transit-oriented downtown where people, businesses, and community life thrive together. You may have noticed boxes being packed and offices in transition. Many city staff are preparing to move into the new Sky Building. This modern facility will house municipal operations while offering residential units, commercial space, and public parking. Once the move is complete, the current City Hall building will be redeveloped into the Horizon Project—a bold reimagining of the site that will deliver: 311 high-quality residential units with attainable housing, 21,000 sq. ft. of commercial space, a brand-new Greenleaf Park with tennis, pickleball, and basketball courts, as well as a pavilion and playground.
There will be a new dog park at NE 36th Street and 13th Avenue featuring green space and the preserved legacy tree, expansive open space and a walkable street “woonerf” with public gathering places, 195 public surface and structured parking spaces, in addition to the residential and commercial parking spaces, and a platform area for the potential future commuter rail station.
