| 7/28/2025 | Football BOCA RATON, Fla. – Caden Veltkamp, redshirt junior quarterback for the Florida Atlantic football team, has been named to the Maxwell Award’s watch list for the 2025 season. The prestigious award is presented annually by the Maxwell Football Club to the most outstanding player in college football.  The watch list for the 89th annual Maxwell Award features 80 of the top players in the sport. Veltkamp is one of just three players from the American Conference that is represented. Arriving to Paradise for his first season as an Owl, Veltkamp is coming off a season in which he won Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year. In his final year at Western Kentucky in 2024, he threw for 3,108 yards and 25 passing touchdowns in addition to seven rushing scores as he led the Hilltoppers to the CUSA Championship Game. Florida Atlantic opens its fall preseason camp this week with eyes set toward the season opener at Maryland on Saturday, Aug. 30. Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced November 11, 2025, while the three finalists for the Maxwell Award will be unveiled November 25, 2025. The winner of the 89th Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 11, 2025.
