USF Baseball Has Trio Drafted in 2025 MLB Draft

Corey Braun, Austin Newton, and Bryce Archie were drafted to the Show

TAMPA, July 15, 2025 – A new chapter begins for three standout Bulls as the University of South Florida baseball team saw Corey Braun, Austin Newton, and Bryce Archie selected in the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft on Monday night.

The trio becomes the first USF players drafted since 2022, when the Chicago White Sox took right-hander Dylan Burns and lefty Logan Lyle.

Left-handed ace Corey Braun was the first Bull off the board, going in the 8th round to the Oakland Athletics. Braun anchored the Bulls’ rotation all season, finishing with a team-best 3.71 ERA over 97 innings and a whopping 97 strikeouts. His signature moment came in a dominant complete-game shutout of Tulane, allowing just two hits and striking out six. He finished the season with eight wins, the most on the staff.

Right-hander Austin Newton followed in the 10th round to the Colorado Rockies. A versatile arm, Newton made eight appearances and four starts, racking up 22 strikeouts in 22.2 innings. He delivered his best performance in the AAC Tournament, striking out a career-high six batters to help USF advance to the semifinals.

Right-hander Bryce Archie rounded out the Bulls’ selections in the 14th round to the Cincinnati Reds. Archie appeared in 15 games, making three starts—including an eye-opening outing against No. 9 Florida State, where he struck out four in three innings and limited the Seminoles to just three hits. Across 44.1 innings, Archie posted a stellar 3.25 ERA and 36 strikeouts, collecting three wins on the year.
