FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Anthony Karoly, a junior, right-handed pitcher for the Nova Southeastern Baseball program, was selected in the 17th round of the 2025 Major League Baseball (MLB) Rookie Draft by the Seattle Mariners on Monday evening. Karoly was the only draftee selected from the Sunshine State Conference and was one of 14 players chosen from NCAA Division II.
Karoly becomes the second pitcher drafted from Nova Southeastern University under the direction of Head Coach Adrian Morales, joining Frank Elissalt (New York Mets/19th Round) in 2024. Karoly is the third NSU player drafted by the Mariners since 2018 – Jake Anchia (Seventh Round/Pick 208) and Brock Minich (27th Round/Pick 816).
In Sunshine State Conference play, Karoly held the lowest earned run average (2.55), amongst NSU starting pitchers, while recording 24.2 innings pitched, and 41 strikeouts. Across 12 outings during the 2025 season, Karoly had seven shutout appearances. Karoly’s best outing of the season came against Rollins on March 15th, where the right-hander struck out seven across three innings of work, allowing just one hit. Overall, on the 2025 season, Karoly recorded a career-high 28 innings and 47 strikeouts, while limiting opponents to a 0.167 batting average against.
