MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced that the club has acquired Minor League right-handed pitcher Colby Martin from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for right-handed pitcher Robinson Piña.
Martin, 24, owns an 0-1 record and 1.54 ERA (4 ER/22.1 IP) in 21 relief appearances this season between Single-A Dunedin (20 games) and High-A Vancouver (one game). The Ephrata, Penn. native has 30 strikeouts compared to 14 walks, five saves in five opportunities, and has held opponents to a .079 AVG (6×76) during his first full season in professional baseball.
Toronto selected the right-hander in the 16th round of the 2024 First-Year Player Draft out of Southeastern University in Lakeland, Fla., after recording 31 strikeouts and pitching to a 4.41 ERA (8 ER/16.1 IP) in his first full-time action on the mound. Previously, Martin played two seasons of collegiate ball at Shenandoah University in Westchester, Va., where he was a two-time All-American second baseman in 2021 and 2023. He missed the 2022 season in recovery from “Tommy John” surgery.
Piña, 26, appeared in one game this season with the Marlins on June 20 vs. Atlanta and allowed a solo home run in his lone inning of work. Miami signed the San Cristobal, D.R. native as a Minor League free agent on Nov. 20, 2024, and he posted a 4-3 record and 3.47 ERA (22 ER/57.0 IP) in 13 games (11 starts) with Triple-A Jacksonville to begin the 2025 season.
Piña was designated for assignment by Miami on June 21.
