Charlotte Women, Wichita State Men Head into Final Day of 2025 American Outdoor Track & Field Championship with Lead

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte women and Wichita State men’s teams will head into the final day of 2025 American Outdoor Track & Field Championships with the lead following two days of competition at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Day two began with the completion of the heptathlon where Destiny Masters took home the gold medal with 5,503 points over the seven events. Teammate Brianna Utecht finished as the silver medalist with 5,295 points, while Rice’s Julia Johannesdottir brought home the bronze medal with 5,283 points.

The men’s heptathlon finished with Wichita State athletes taking the top two positions. Freshman Rikard Throgen-Hedin took home gold with 7,189 points, while Hudson Bailey earned silver with 7,084 points.  Connor Wetherington made up ground on the final day to podium with a third-place finish at 6,985 points.

In women’s shot put, UTSA’s Nyaluet Diew won with a mark of 16.30 meters on her third throw.  North Texas’ Ava Roberts finished in second with a mark of 15.58 meters, while Charlotte’s Kayla Davis-Edwards came in third place with a mark of 15.50 meters.

UTSA swept the women’s long jump with Ida Breigan finishing with the gold medal with a mark of 6.50 meters.  Rachela Pace came up just short for second place at 6.48 meters, while Oreoluwa Adamson finished in third place at 6.30 meters.

Memphis’ Sascha Schmidt earned the gold medal in the men’s shot put with a mark of 18.53 meters.  South Florida’s Jason Nwosu finished with the silver medal with a mark of 17.29 meters, while Charlotte’s Jahnaul Ritzie finished with the bronze medal at 17.28 meters.

Wichita State had three of the top four finishers in men’s long jump with freshman Chairo Ogbebor taking the gold medal at 7.66 meters and Josh Parrish earning bronze at 7.45 meters.  North Texas’ Derrick Warren was the silver medalist at 7.55 meters.

Sarah Brown of Charlotte wrapped up the field events with a gold medal in pole vault, clearing a personal best of 4.38 meters. Wichita State’s Arantxa Cortez was the silver medalist with a clearance of 4.02 meters, earning the tiebreaker with one less attempt over South Florida’s Madeline Dutz who earned the bronze medal.

Tulsa’s Sara Morefield ended the night for the women with a gold medal in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 10:19.50. Florida Atlantic’s Anabell Reumann earned the silver medal at 10:22.28, while Tulane’s Alex Sharp was the bronze medalist at 10:37.37.

The medaling ended with the men’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, where Tulane’s Silas Kiptanui took home the gold medal with a time of 8:41.41. Rice’s Gus Gannon finished with the silver medal at 8:57.26, while Tulsa’s Luke Birdseye won the bronze medal with a time of 9:00.58.

In the 100-meter hurdle prelims, South Florida finished with the top two finishers in Doris Quainoo (13.20) and Tyra Thomas (13.21). Memphis’ Ivory Davis had the third-best time at 13.35 seconds.

Wichita State’s Josh Parrish earned the top qualifying time in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.57 seconds.  South Florida’s Markel Jones at 13.64 seconds was the second fastest qualifier, while North Texas’ Hendrick Hundl was third with a time of 13.76 seconds.

Wichita State’s Farrah Miller was the fastest qualifier for the women’s 800-meter prelims with a time of 2:08.15, followed by North Texas’ London Culbreath (2:08.56) and Florida Atlantic’s Rosa Ten Berg (2:08.82).

In the men’s 800-meter run, North Texas’ Chase Lehr had the top qualifying time with 1:50.06. Charlotte’s Andrew Mallo finished second at 1:50.21, while Wichita State’s Yared Kidane was third at 1:50.55.

South Florida’s Rushana Dwyer earned the top qualifying time in the women’s 400-meter dash with a time of 53.04 seconds. Just behind Dwyer was Charlotte’s Khia Holloway at 53.09 seconds. North Texas’ Aariyana Williams came in third with a time of 53.16 seconds.

In the men’s 400-meter dash, South Florida’s Gabriel Moronta was the top finisher with a time of 45.68 seconds, while UTSA’s Michael Roth was second at 46.50 seconds. The third best time came from North Texas’ Chris Johnson at 46.65 seconds.

East Carolina’s Kelly Ufodiama was the top qualifier in the women’s 100-meter dash with a time of 11.38 seconds.  Rice’s Saniya Friendly had the second-best time at 11.52 seconds, while Tulane’s Egbe Ndip-Agbor was third at 11.62 seconds.

South Florida had two of the top three qualifiers in the men’s 100-meter dash with Jaleel Croal taking the top spot at 10.21 seconds and Terrell Robinson Jr. coming in third at 10.43 seconds. Tulane’s Lee Harris was the second fastest at 10.33 seconds.

The final day of the 2025 American Track & Field Championships will begin at 2:30 p.m. ET with men’s high jump. ESPN+ coverage will resume at 4:15 p.m. ET.
