MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced the 2025 All-Sunshine State Conference baseball honorees on Tuesday morning. The Nova Southeastern Sharks had five student-athletes recognized, as Roylan Quevedo, Justin Wachs, Xavier Moronta, Keyler Gonzalez, and Federico Zapata all garnered second team honors. Quevedo was also recognized to the All-SSC Defensive team.
Quevedo, in his first season as a Shark, started 42 games, finishing third on the team in batting average (0.320), hits (49), runs (34), while leading the club in steals with 12. Defensively, Quevedo led the team with 117 assists and held a 0.938 fielding percentage throughout the season.
Wachs earns the second all-league honor of his career (2024 first-team) and put together another solid campaign at the top of the Sharks’ lineup. Wachs led the team with a 0.362 batting average, hits (63), triples (4), hit by pitches (22), on-base percentage (0.486) and tied for the team lead with 40 runs batted in. Wachs was second in total bases (92), doubles (9), slugging percentage (0.529), and tied for third in home runs. Over the last two seasons, Wachs has collected 122 hits, 11 home runs, 75 runs batted in, 18 doubles, scoring 92 runs, while hitting 0.361.
Moronta, in his first season as a Shark, was a prominent figure in the middle of the NSU lineup. Moronta led the team in home runs (6), doubles (20), and slugging percentage (0.604), while finishing second on the club in batting average (0.343), hits (58), runs (40), triples (3). Moronta reached base in 39 of 43 games he was in the lineup, including 35 consecutive from February 8th through May 3rd.
Gonzalez anchored the Sharks pitching rotation throughout the 2025 campaign, leading the team in innings pitched (86.2), strikeouts (87), while limiting opposing hitters to a 0.228 batting average against. Gonzalez began the season with five consecutive starts of at least seven innings, totaling eight such appearances on the year. Gonzalez pitched a career-high 8.1 innings against Palm Beach Atlantic on March 21st.
Zapata solidified himself as a starter in the second half of the season and appeared in 15 games for NSU with seven starts. The right-hander finished second on the team in innings pitched (72.1) and strikeouts (63), trailing only Keyler Gonzalez. Zapata tossed back-to-back complete games on April 12th and April 19th, earning Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the Week honors after both outings. In a four start stretch, which included the complete games, Zapata totaled 31 innings, allowed eight earned runs, and struck out 26.
