USF Baseball Charges Late to Edge FAU in Tight Contest

The Bulls stay in second place in the standings.

BOCA RATON, May 9, 2025– The University of South Florida Bulls (26-21, 13-9 AAC) delivered a gritty comeback performance on Thursday night, defeating Florida Atlantic (32-17, 12-10 AAC) 4-3 in a crucial conference matchup at FAU Baseball Stadium.

South Florida is still second in the AAC standings, one game ahead of Florida Atlantic. Charlotte is tied with the Bulls for second place. They walked off UAB in 11 innings.

After falling behind 3-2 in the seventh inning following a three-run home run by FAU’s Jake Millan, the Bulls responded immediately in the top of the eighth. Ryan Pruitt, who had a multi-hit night, sparked the rally with a single up the middle. Carlos Jacome then delivered a clutch RBI double to tie the game, and Sebastian Greico followed with a go-ahead RBI double of his own, giving USF the 4-3 lead.

Corey Braun earned his seventh win of the season after a solid 7-inning outing, allowing just three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Austin Newton closed the door with a 1.2-inning save—his first of the year—striking out three and stranding the tying run in the ninth.

At the plate, USF was led by Pruitt (2-for-4, RBI), Jacome (2B, RBI), and Greico (2B, RBI), while catcher Lance Trippel also added a key RBI single in the seventh inning. The Bulls tallied eight hits and played aggressive late-inning baseball to earn their 13th conference win.
